AA's biggest signing when he was in Toronto was Russell Martin. The next closest was Izturis at 3 years for utility player money That contract has not worked out very welll, so I'm not sure if that's a sign we'll go after Grandal or be leary of signing a catcher to a FA contract. This quote about catcher's defense and pitch framing makes me think we may go after Grandal and may provide the reason we re-signed Flowers and not Zuk
"The way we saw it, this is a guy who can make 12 guys on our roster, the bullpen and starters, better—and we also have a wave of young starters," Anthopoulos said of the move back in 2015. "He's going to be around for all of them."
As long as we bring back Bartolo I'm good.

With both Markakis and Suzuki becoming free agents, Alex Anthopoulos says the #Braves do have interest in having both back for 2019. @680TheFan

Heyman's already reported that Markakis isn't getting a QO - have to imagine I'll join the haters if he's brought back as "the answer" unless the plan is to move Camargo to the OF immediately following a Riley promotion.
If Markakis is brought back and AA could have added any of Grandal/Pollock/Gonzalez/Brantley/Kimbrel/Britton/Doolittle for similar or less money, I'll finally see something worth getting upset over.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
Here's AA's quote "the payroll will go up from the current year. We do not have a payroll number set for next year. It will go up, we will have a good amount of money to work with"
This still doesn't tell you how much tho. It could go up $1M. Does that mean opening day payroll or season end payroll?
Just a crazy idea!! Maybe we trade Ender Inciarte move Acuña to center sign Markakis and go for Bryce Harper or someone else. Maybe the want Markakis to be a bench piece.
I doubt we're spending the money for Harper.
I have thought of the possibility of trading Ender. I think the plan would be to move Acuna to CF for a season and have Pache as the heir apparent. That would allow you to get 2 corner OF bats this season, but what would yo do with one of them when Pache is ready. Also with AA focuing on defense would he be willing to lose Ender's defense in CF and go with Acuna. I don't think he would.
I'm not sure they got all the way to 130 and I would think they would be measuring the payroll going up more by the beginning number than the end number. I think they'll be looking to leave themselves some acquisition room at deadline also.
But maybe you are right. If they are looking at a top end of 135-140 million next year, that would certainly be welcome. I just sort of doubt it.
Do you think there's any chance we can deal a package of something like Fried, Newk and maybe a couple other minor league guys to the Giants for Madison Bumgarner and give him a pay day to get him to stay for 6ish years?
This is the dude that we need to make us instant WS contenders. JdG would fit the bill too, but I would never expect the Mets to deal him to us.
You're comparing the Astros signing a former CYA and MVP winner to Sonny Gray? This is one of the most shocking things I've ever read on the internet.
Signing Gray would moronic. We have an entire major and minor league roster full of back end rotation arms. Even bringing in Gausman was stupid I thought. Need to get a real ace until the other guys are ready or we are at least 2-3 years away from winning anything of note.
