No way he was a disappointment to me. The best defensive CF ever and hit 368 HRs for the Braves in 11 seasons. Andruw is my favorite brave. I love the guy
    Swanson sucks

Andruw was considered an under achiever offensively. He had one great year where he hit over .300 and everyone thought he was breaking out. He wasnt. He was never really forced to be the cleab up hittter until the year he hit 50 homers. He was never the 3rd or 4th hitter in the lineup.

I think his offense was only disappointing if you expected him to be Griffey or Bonds at the plate. For all of his prime he was an above average hitter and for several years of it he was a really good hitter. I think maybe I did not expect as much.

If I was unreasonably disappointed in a Brave it would probably be Chipper. And I know Chipper had a fantastic career and will got to the Hall of Fame, so I know it is unreasonable.

Which reflects my point about unreasonable expectations. The whole of Andruw's parts (including his 368 bombs and double-digit Gold Gloves) made him a borderline Hall Of Famer. Asking more from anyone is simply asking the vast majority of players to be more than they are.

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

    The cycle!

Acuna with a pedestrian 3-4 with a double...probably got him back into the Top 25.

    tehteh just creamed his pants.

Mesa made 5 errors. I think they were playing the B team haha.

Has done nothing since being drafted to make anyone think he wouldn't be an everyday thirdbaseman.

Only thing disappointing about chipper was his health at the end

There is plenty of reason to think that he won't. Let's get real here.

Of course he could not. But what has he done to make us doubt it. Good prospects fail all the time. I just think it's odd that people write him off and don't include him as a future option.

I don't think anyone has written him off. But the likelihood of him becoming even an average 3b is still pretty low. He K's a ton, doesn't have great contact skills, and still has concerns defensively, even if he has improved from what he was. I think the most realistic ceiling is Mark Reynolds, which isn't a bad player by any means, but for every one Mark Reynolds you have a dozen Mike Hessmans

So my hope (whoever is hired), will take the time to evaluate talent in the system. It makes me nervous that whoever hired will make “Dipinto” type moves to make the team his. With the level of talent just starting to bloom, I’m not sure I would make any big trades for at least a year. Let me rephrase that....I would make a big trade to get rid of Nick or Kemp. Maybe some of the guys that are on the big league team like Folty or Julio. I would be VERY careful trading my minor league guys. Gohora and Jackson should serve as a reminder to any GM about that. Yes, maybe neither guy pans out, but they have shown enough to prove Dipinto traded them without really evaluating what they could become.

    J. J. Cooper's take when asked about Riley's K-Rate...

"I think you’ve misread his strikeout rate. In 2017, a strikeout rate in the low 20’s percent range for a 20 year old who has made it to Double-A is not bad at all if he hits for power. Riley checks that box as he has consistently hit for power. I think .250 with 30 home runs would make him a very valuable big league third baseman, and it seems within the range of possibility. I will ask, when you say we’re the high ones on Riley, I will note that I’m pretty sure this is the first Braves prospect ranking of the offseason from any of the national sources. If you’re comparing where Riley was ranked before the 2017 season to now, a lot has happened since then."

Take that for what you want - just explaining their opinion.

FWIW, .250 with 30 bombs while playing acceptable defense at 3B sounds an awful lot like Todd Frazier, no?

    Some of his other takes...

Says he doesn't see a really good comp for Gohara, but mentions Luis Severino loosely as one - his fastball/breaking ball combo is so good that he only needs to throw the change sporadically to keep it in hitters' minds.

Like many, he also sees Allard as a #3/#4 with present velocity.

His 3 darkhorses to move into the Top 10 moving forward - Tucker Davidson, Yefri Del Rosario, and William Contreras.

He does expect to see Soroka in Atlanta at some point in 2018.

Mentions Kiermaier as a comp for Pache.

Says Tucker Davidson is "absolutely for real".

The differing reports on Acuna's defense are ridiculous (from his perspective) - calls him plus to plus-plus in CF and expects him to be even better in RF.

Says he's talked to multiple scouts who see Bryse Wilson as a back-end guy rather than a starter.

Sees Scivicque as an eventual backup, not a starter.

They put him out there because he was a hack at 3B for a couple of years. Probably too busy banging hooters.

Chipper seemed like he was usually the 7th or 8th best player in baseball and then he got really injury prone.

Like I said, I know its unreasonable to be disappointed. He's HOF bound.

Interesting about Davidson. What are the scouting reports on him?
