Part of that is the trade deadline pumping up the value of the established player.

I like Soler and he has massive power potential and did make pretty good strides from 2015 to 2016. BB% and K% improved. Saw a dip in the batting average but I'd expect that 276 BABIP to improve as well.

Hindsight is 20/20, but we should have just held onto BJ and traded Kimbrel for a haul. This is insane.

Without question. That deal looks awful now.

I was always confused at the need to put Upton in that deal when we knew we probably wouldn't be that good for the next few years anyway.

Why does it look awful? We got Wisler and Riley. And I don't understand why people continue to insinuate the BJ savings did us no good. We likely used that to buy Touki. There are also other ways we've used our extra room in the budget that we may not have been able to had we still had BJ on the books.

If you're telling me we got Wisler, Touki, and Riley for Kimbrel, then I'd say that's a pretty sweet haul. And at the time, Wisler's value was at its peak. Soler's value right now is about at its lowest point. The Cubs didn't give up a top prospect, they gave up a young guy with potential whose value has dropped quite a bit.

A lot of people on here saw it as a mistake. The idea of trading Upton was to get his salary off the books to help compete sooner. I thought that was a mistake as others on here did as well. Just eat the deal and get a better return for Kimbrel.

Davis is also not Kimbrel. Look at what the Padres got for Kimbrel. That's what we would be looking at and that's a lot better than Wisler, Touki, and Riley.

Another player from the prior regime gone with the releasing of Williams Perez. We're down to about a dozen or so players of any value left.

    Julio Teheran
    Ozzie Albies
    Ronald Acuna
    Lucas Sims
    Mauricio Cabrera
    Braxton Davidson
    Jason Hursh
    Johan Camargo
    Stephen Janas
    Ray Patrick Didder
    Connor Lien
    Chad Sobotka

We're now sitting on 8 relievers. The only two who have options are Vizcaino and Mauricio. We'll still need another lefty as well.

    Jim Johnson- closer
    Arodys Vizcaino
    Josh Collmenter- or other swingman
    Maurico Cabrera
    Ian Kroll- token leftty
Armando Rivera- has to stay on the 25 man roster
    Jose Ramirez- out of options
    Chaz Roe-out of options

I think this may be the time we sell high on Mauricio, create some roster flexibility in the pen, and continue the trend of purging the system of players from the prior regime.

I understood the drooling when he was first signed, but he's another Cuban player who so far looks better on paper than on the field. Still young, but there's a lot of swing-and-miss in his game. Granted, when he hits it, it goes, but he's still a work in progress.

This is the type of deal we need to make. Sign him, heal him, boost his value, and send packing.

My guess is with the new CBA limiting meal money from $100 to $30, and no clubhouse dues for the Clubhouse staff, the Clubhouse manager went to JC,JS,JH and told him the Braves can't afford BOTH Bartolo and Baby Harang.

So naturally one had to go.

Who'd he bl*w to get a spot on the 40-man roster? We may or may not be contenders, but we sure lead the league in soft-tossers.

I think Minter is probably in the major league bullpen at some point in 2017 and there's always a LHP or two hanging around that they will sign and provide an NRI.

Agreed I think Minter, Shea, and Dirks are all in the major league pen at some point. If he's healthy Paco could be the 2nd lefty in the pen to start.

We showed interest in Brach, so I can see us getting another veteran late inning guys.

Either way it seems like we may have extra right handed 1 inning arm guys to trade. Roe fetches nothing. We seem to really like Ramirez. IMO That leaves Arodys or Mauricio being the trade bait

Especially since freeing up BJ's money wasn't used to improve the team in any real way. The ChiSox are in the same situation with Shields. We will see if they decide to let him play out his deal rather than dump him for payroll flexibility they don't need during a rebuild.
