I say that because AGon or Hanley get a chance to hit with a runner at third and one out.

Better chance they hit a deep fly ball off Rosenthal to score the runner from third.

Or a runner on 2nd, and 1 out where Young grounds into a DP.

I don't hate using Jansen there, he got away with it for most of the game.

But pulling AGon in a tie game, in the playoffs no less, I have no words for that.

It's not that managers don't make mistakes but over-the-top criticism is just lame. Anybody in their position would be just as vulnerable to over or under-managing a given situation. You are a fool if you think you know what you would've done if you were in the dugout.
I guess I'm a fool then because there is zero chance I would have done what he did. The odds of what you described happening are so preposterously low that there's no way it's worth the chance.

They played so far above their heads against us and the law of averages caught up with them.

I'm curious as to why Matheny used a lefty to finish the 7th, one who only threw 8 pitches, and the proceeds to bring in another lefty to start the 8th and face just one batter before being removed (the pitcher's spot did not come up in the bottom of the 7th, so he wasn't taken out for a pinch hitter) Now he is out of lefties for the game and it is only a 1 run deficit. Could come back to bite him if Gonzo bats this inning with runners on.

Cardinals were smart and plunked Hanley last night, knocking him out of today's game and maybe more

It has a lot to do with the Cardinals pitchers actually making pitches in key spots and not pitching scared at times.

Cardinals are just an amazing organization. When you have money plus smart guys running the draft you are going to win a lot of games.

I don't really like the Cardinals (more of a begrudging respect for their organization and the way it does things), but I've always hated the Dodgers, and this is looking mighty satisfying right now. Hopefully Wainwright can bump it to 3-0.

Cards beat Greinke/Kershaw and now have their ace Wainwright going in Game 3

Does anyone think we had a chance against the Cards had we beat the Dodgers? I know I don't.

    Honestly, yes.

Dodgers should probably be up 2-0, outhit and outplayed them both games but can't get one big hit to win each game.

Doesn't help Hanley was out today and Mattingley took out AGon in a tied game which ended up costing them.

They hit with RISP vs us, around 330 but can't buy a hit with runners on vs the Cards.

In a short series, I would have taken my chances with the Cardinals over the Dodgers.

    Tigers take Game 1.

Scherzer and Verlander loom in Game 2 and 3.

Is actually a bit astonishing how well Sanchez has pitched this year. He's pitched like an ace all year. Suddenly he lead the AL in ERA and also had well over a K per inning. Where is this coming from? He was never this dominant on the Marlins.

Once he went to Det, he was really good.

Maybe not ace good but a change of scenery did him well, really good pitcher.
