Santana had conventional splits in 2016 & 2017. Given that, I wouldn't make much of the reverse splits in 2018.

It's not a big deal, I prefer Santana though as he has hit righties at over an .800 OPS the last two years. I am not concerned about his struggles last year vs lefties given Camargo/Duvall historically hit lefties best.

Maybe not, but either way he hits righties a lot which is all I care about with Camargo/Duvall as bench options vs lefties. So even if he continued that a la Peralta I wouldn't care as I want Camargo playing some in the OF anyway. Duvall too assuming he stays with us.

Here's a few of my OF targets via trade:

    1. Jose Martinez, Cardinals, 1B/RF - I don't like his defense at first or OF, but he isn't worse than Kemp and certainly not worse than Castellanos "who has, over the past two seasons, been baseball's worst defensive player." (quoting MLBTR chat, Steve Adams). This kid can really hit and i love his skills with the bat. I also like that they seem to only want a good lefty bullpen arm in return and this kid isn't making any real money yet so we can make him a bench option if we find another outfielder later.

    2. Peralta, OF, D'Backs - Hits righties very well and his struggles vs lefties are no concern since we have Camargo/Duvall to play vs them.

    3. Santana, OF, Brewers - Hits righties very well and had a big season just a year ago including 30 homers. Brewers are said to be willing to move an outfielder so depends on the cost.

I would add these trade candidates:

    4) Pederson
    5) Kepler
    6) Happ
    7) Kemp

The dodgers got 142 games with 500+ PAs last season from kemp while improving his def value according to fangraphs. We were able to improve markakis' def value I suppose by positioning him better. Can we get do the same with Martinez or Castellanos? Duvall is a good defender to replace one of them late.

I am not interested in Kepler or Kemp.

Why trade for a .720-.737 OPS player like Kepler when even Markakis etc can give you that?

We can with Martinez a lot easier than Castellanos/Kemp as they are quite simply worse. Castellanos should be a DH, he just plain sucks defensively. He was the worst at third too.

Kemp is a decent outside-the-box idea at the right price. I know he grew up a Braves fan and would be excited to play in Atlanta.

I'd platoon Camargo/Duvall in the OF before I'd bring back Kemp.

    I can't believe what I'm reading...

Kemp was still a terrible defender...ranking #75 of 87 qualified OFers in Catch Percentage Added. He is terrible. He will always be terrible. He is not an option.

Castellanos was even worse, ranking #85 on the same list. He is also not an option.

Martinez didn't log enough time in the OF to qualify, but of the 204 OFers with 25+ chances, he ranked #195.

Camargo's below avergae spring speed of 26.3 is slower than Markakis, and he doesn't have thousands of innings of experience Markakis does. Nothing suggests he would be anything other than bad in the OF.

These are not viable OF solutions for a contending team. They are awful ideas.

Kemp went to the world series with the Dodgers. So while I do not want him back you cannot say they didn't make it work with him. Tucker is also terrible defensively but we made it work with him prior to Acuna taking over.

Sign one of them and bring in LF fence 50 feet.
