Even on a relatively down day where none of the top prospects are starting, you still have intriguing guys to watch. The pitching in this system really is incredible and fairly unprecedented.

If Withrow keeps it up, he could force his way up the list

Would be nice if wisler was there to start one of these games today vs sitting in the pen doing nothing.

One thought could be to have Wisler airing it out for 2 innings at a time, thus boosting his trade value and we try to get something for him. i think the Diamondbacks are finding some success with Archie Bradley at the moment...

I doubt the Braves are that smart though

That same thought had actually crossed my mind. *ell, might not want to move him if he could be effective like Bradley/Devenski/Raisel Iglesias have been. Definitely think he could actually be a nice piece in the pen if he could give you two innings 3 times a week - perfect bridge to allow Snit to get Bartolo/Dickey/Garcia out before they got into trouble. If they were regularly good for 5, you wouldn't need to burn so many guys early. Use the old guys for 5, Wisler for the 6th and 7th, then just keep running the flamethrowers and Johnson out there in the 8th and 9th.

Even with all his struggles, I think I'd still feel more comfortable with Wisler out there consistently sitting 94-95 (if you take his change away and only call the occasional slider to change eye-levels and timing) than I am when Collmenter goes out for those short stints - I just always feel like the soft-tossers are easier to time in the later innings when everyone's looking for something to mash. He's obviously not Mauricio, but if you tried to sequence Wisler the same way, he might be pretty effective.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I wish we'd go to a two to three inning bp option in the majors.

We have a bunch of arms that could go through a line up once

Go back and look at some of the bullpens from the pre-specialist era. I started watching baseball seriously in the early-1960s and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary to have a relief pitcher throw more than 100 innings. You'd also see bullpen guys get an occasional start and a front-line starter throw a few relief innings during the season. Handling of pitching staffs is the most dramatic change I have witnessed in my 50+ years of following the game.

I am a big fan of multi inning relievers. I think teams are missing a lot of potential by not using these starters who lack a quality third pitch as multi inning relievers. Over time they might even develop that third pitch enough to be a starter.

    You just described Collmenter's role.

Yeah, They are certainly not as smart as a bunch of armchair GM's who don't have to actually live with the results of their decisions.

Ruiz 2 HRs this week. I'd love to get him going and perhaps platoon him with Garcia
