Snitker demoted to AAA, Dascenzo new 3B coach

@ajcbraves: Brain Snitker has been reassigned from 3B coach to AAA Gwinnett Manager. Minor leaver rover Doug Dascenzo named 3B coach. Braves announced. (http://twitter.com/ajcbraves/status/389768609502736385)

@tom_hart: Before Game 1 of the NLDS a member of the Braves coaching staff told me Brian Snitker provided an advantage over other playoff teams. (http://twitter.com/tom_hart/status/389769109988474880)

I don't understand this move in the slightest, really. Can recall very few (if just one or two) occasions over the past season where I thought Snitker blatantly screwed up. If anyone were to have gone, I was thinking Pendleton -- after that little brush-up with Chris Johnson.

This isn't considered a promotion for Snitker is it?

I always thought Snitker was a disaster... but 2013 had less bad decisions.

Having said all that, I sure hope this isn't our "coaching" move of the off season. Fredi needs to go

I would do the same thing. Pendleton is not doing his job getting our guys the best opportunity possible to steal. Watch a good 1B coach and they are helping their guys with pickoff moves, timing, etc.

Not a single coach in the organization seems to know a thing about baserunning. Such a huge weakness.

I really liked the job Fredi did at third. Would love to see him take Snitker's place.

    Per article on MLB.com :

"The remainder of the Braves' staff -- bench coach Carlos Tosca, pitching coach Roger McDowell, hitting coach Greg Walker, advance coach/assistant hitting coach Scott Fletcher, first-base coach Terry Pendleton and bullpen coach Eddie Perez -- will all return for the 2014 season."

I am going to try not to get my hopes up at Fredi's name not being on that list.

Also, how does a team with this much hitting talent perform at such a low level and not fire at least one hitting coach?

I don't think a team would bring in a new manager and assign them a whole staff, including bench coach. I think they only mentioned it in the article because Fredi is under contract and those others are year to year.

96 wins and losing to a better team(Dodgers)

I can see why they kept Fredi. Braves will never be a team to fire a manager after a 96 win season. Dont expect it unless they totally collapse again or win no more than 81 games. Its just the feel I get from the Braves and Wren.

*sigh* We learned nothing from this year, did we? As long as we have this crew and Fredi at the helm we'll always be a day late and a dollar short.

    That's what I figured.

Atlanta doesn't want a championship, they are just happy to have banners. It makes the stadium look nice and on paper as well. Being the Buffalo Bills of baseball is our mantle and we wear it proudly.

It does seem that way. Keeping Fredi is one thing. At least you can argue that the team won games under him. Keeping either hitting coach, though, is just ridiculous. And isn't it time for Pendleton to move on? I think so. He could go manage some ****ty team for a few years and come back and make all of us miserable.

Hitting is down pretty much across the board in MLB.

And maybe they'll blame the players instead. Uggla didn't make the postseason roster and BJ also lost his job down the stretch. I'd rather see that than firing the hitting coach and giving those two a pass.

Two completely different issues. No one is giving Uggla or BJ a pass. One permanently lost his job (and place on the team, most likely), and the other lost his job for 2013 and is on a short leash in 2014. That is over and dealt with.

I for one am really glad they made this move. We were not going to win a pennant with Snitker as our 3B coach......
