I'm not sure what to think about the Reds anymore, but I think this basically takes out the Dodgers as a potential trading partner for us. Yet another avenue for us to explore being shut down. Come on AA, I understand patience, but you gotta get something done soon.

If thats the deal, then LA is making a run at Harper. Kemp, Wood, and Puig is about 42 mil in payroll, Bailey is about 17, so they cleared 25 million. Somethings fishy.

I don’t want them to acquire Gray, and I’m not a huge fan of getting Frazier. I just think that Gray is likely and once they start talking about Gray it will be logical to expand the deal to Frazier.
Wouldn’t Gohora have a ton more surplus value than Gray?? I feel like Gray will make pretty much what he’s worth (unless he has a pretty good uptick). I would do Allard and that’s probably an overpay (even though he throws 90 lol). I’m don’t think Gray has anymore chance of making a difference for us than Julio would of having a bounce back year.

I’m with you...I am not big on either Gray or Frazier.

Stroman is that guy I feel AA would target.

Harper has to be announced to the Dodgers soon, right? That’s better than the Phillies getting him. I hope the Yankees or White Sox sign Machado. AA will need to move soon on an outfielder.

I think it's a clear money saving move for LA. Right now they only have CT3, Joc, and Verdugo in the outfield.

Would appear to be the case.

I guess this also takes LA out of the Realmuto sweepstakes now. Outfield depth taken a hit. But one assumes they get Harper now.

As long as the Yankees offer him a respectable contract, that would appear to be likely.

Yeah this is false. Vast majority of trades fall within a very close range to their estimated surplus value.

If the Reds were squarely in a contention window, I'd like this move for them but it feels like its a little too early. However, they clearly got pretty good value in this deal.

I like the Dodger's side too. You shed a good bit of money in the deal, open up a space for Harper, and get two high upside minor league pieces with Downs and Gray. Probably a good deal for both sides, but it seems really odd for the Reds because I still think they are a good ways out from contention.

Yeah I mean they gotta be what, 3rd or 4th best team in the division still right?

    not necessarily

still could make a deal with the Dodgers for one of Verdugo, Pederson, Taylor or Hernandez

still could make a deal with the Reds for Winker, Puig or Kemp

To the extent this is an indication the Dodgers are closer to signing Harper it increases our chances to make a trade with them for an outfielder.

    So:

    1. Kemp might hit 30 HR’s in the Cincy before he fizzles our mid June.

    2. We were probably never a strong partner with the Dodgers because they wanted to attach Kemp with Puig and Wood.

Pretty clear the Dodgers are all in on Harper. Which is good
