Yes because he was very young... he already had a buzz around him and I remember specifically him being the one that most fans were upset about losing... to say he wasn't one of the center pieces is ridiculous.

I do think D Peterson will go in that group too. Playing LF will hurt but he is raking and only 20

He was highly thought of before the trade, but there were concerns that he was a future reliever. Of course, after the trade, Braves fans thought he had no breaking ball and would flame out like very other hard throwing minor league pitcher. "He's the next Jose Capellan"

I doubt there are more than 10 teams that can realistically say they should have 3 players in the top 100 and even that number might be generous.

Cabbage could make a lot of lettuce. He's supposedly a pretty good hitter, so he shouldn't have to turn over a new leaf as a pro. He supposedly has a good head on his shoulders, but he's young so he's still a little green.

So then I think your evaluation of the hitting depth in the Braves farm system was not characterized properly.

And yet, I am failing to see how the Braves have failed to develop hitting in the last 20 something odd years.

And lest we forget, those trades also brought us Mallex Smith, the two Petersons, and Ruiz. All of whom are generally well regarded.

The Cubs have had the benefit of early picks. And they've benefited from trading pitching for young hitting as well.

You can prefer the Cubs if you want. That doesn't mean the Braves doesn't work and work well.

Well you just said he was #9 when we traded him, and that is not correct. IIRC, he was the last piece we added to get the deal done. But the centerpiece was Salty/Andrus.

In hindsight the deal wasn't bad. The bad deal was the insistence on a MLB ready first basemen in return for the second deal.

If only they hung on to Teix and got the comp pick and drafted Trout...oh what could have been.....

The deal was bad no matter the way we slice it. We traded 4 productive major league players for one (outstanding) year of a first basemen.

But yes, the second trade was one of the worse we've ever done

And they're also well over a year away from the stated goal of being legitimate contenders before Opening Day in SunTrust Park. Contenders aren't built overnight.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

It wasn't great. Just because some of the guys didn't pan doesn't mean their value around that time couldn't have been better leveraged elsewhere. Still, I understood the rationale at the time—I just wish the Braves had considered a reasonable attempt to extent Teixeira.

This was the truly terrible stroke. Literally indefensible.

They would have just selected a pitcher with that pick.
