Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I thought Kemp would hit better last season but the injuries derailed that. I think if he was on the roster that enscheff has the best idea. Give him regular days off and replace him defensively late in games every opportunity that you can. That should keep him healthier and decrease the negative value he brings defensively. Doing that correctly could lead to a ~1.5 WAR season. But getting him off the roster like this is even better.

I’d still trade Markakis and Teheran. A move for Yelich and Prado would top off the whole offseason. The moves we’ll be able to make next offseason with the money and available trade bait will be insane.
We need to know Kazmir’s contract details as far as money coming back and deferred money owed. It may be a situation where we only pay him $8M this year and Dodgers pay all of the deferred money. See details on link

Since the net salary exchange here is neutral, this trade seems to work out for both teams based on this "exchange":
- Braves get to completely front load their dead money side of this swap in 2018. When the sun came up this morning, they had $18m of dead money in 2019, and now they have zero.
- Braves get a ~2 WAR veteran SP that they were going to be pursuing anyway at a reasonable rate.
- The Dodgers end up looking like obvious losers on the salary and player exchange, but they save a ton of overall money because their luxury tax overage percentage goes form 50% to 20% this year.
So in a sense, the Braves are able to get a great deal here because of the Dodger's luxury tax situation. One way to think about it is the Dodgers split the value of the luxury tax savings with the Braves, and the Braves side of the split came in the two perks noted above . . . while the Dodgers half is pure money.
We have been kicking around the idea of the Braves using 2018 payroll to get rid of Kemp’s contract by buying him out. Rather than simply do that, AA was able to get a #4 SP and a utility player that should allow them to play Camargo at 3b.
This was a very good trade that took advantage of the Dodgers luxury tax situation...a situation I’m sure AA was intimately familiar with.
I don’t think any other GM could have handled Kemp’s contract better. Big props to AA for this.

And it would seem for the long haul, trades that at least seem to benefit both teams help the GMs that make them. If I were a GM I'd more likely deal with a guy like AA...
Ultimately, the Oliveira/Kemp trade now looks like a decent trade for Atlanta. Ultimately, they were able in the end to shed obligations to oliveira in 2020 and 2019.
I've got us at $114,755,000 - but that includes potential bonuses and has Kazmir at $16 million until we get clarification.
The question (assuming they want to add as little as possible to the 2019 payroll) is how do you spend that money if that $130 million is actually available - WITHOUT moving any of our top prospects?
1.) Seymour and Sanchez to San Diego for Headley - adds $13 million (and creates a 40-Man Roster spot for him).
2.) Muller and Wilson to Cincinnati for Duvall - adds ~ $800,000 (if you give him a decent bump). DFA Garcia to create a roster spot.
3.) Take a flier on Sergio Romo for ~ $2 million. DFA Hursh to create a roster spot.
