In season moves to improve the club

What are some moves we could make in season that would improve the team? This does not include trades for specific players but may include trading some of our guys for prospects. My thoughts are...

    Call up Acuna for LF
Viz out as closer, replaced by Minter
Inciarte moves lower in the order until he starts hitting again. (Not worried about him just going with the hot hand)
    Camargo called up to 3b
Flowers off the DL, Perez to AAA
    Get off my lawn!

Gohara to the rotation when he's ready. Soroka whenever someone gets hurt.

You think soroka gets a shot before September? I really doubt it

It is funny how no one wants to waste a year of control for Acuna but want to bring up Soroka this year. Why not wait until mid April next year for him?

fair point, but the response will likely be based in the difference in expected outcomes between pitchers and hitters at comparable ages.

Easy. That is just how the arbritation system works in baseball. Acuna, especially if his power translates to MLB, will get paid more than Soroka in arbitration. Not to mention, pitchers typically come with higher risk so calling up early to maximize value now vs the extra year control year is a risk worth taking.

I hope we keep gohard down long enough to get that year back though. Burn an option and let him rehab at AAA

How long would he have to stay down?

I really like moving Minter into the closer spot as I think Viz would flourish with a little less pressure. I doubt we move Inciarte, but Albies sure makes that decision tougher by the day.

I'm personally not a big Camargo fan, so I don't know how much he'll help. But I'm sure as heck fine eating crow on that one.

Acuna is the big one, he'll be a massive upgrade.

Pitchers are different animals that hitters that aren't likely the best extension candidates.

I'm up for extending any young player that has ability. The team always seems to get surplus value out of it. And even if one fails the smart play is to sign all of them because the balance of it all will produce surplus.

Iran's Capital city is a classic example with mix results.

Guys like Tucker are fine. Maybe he ends up being a find. But that just means he is a capable mid 700 OPS guy who plays crap defense. Fine for a bench bat or a band aid until the cavalary arises.

Acuna is the future. We are not going to hold him until June for an extra year. Therefore, you call him up as soon as super 2 status is achieved. We may actually have a chance at the WC this year. You don't play around now.

Sure but how much did that really hurt us so far? I'd say he has still outperformed his contract.

Its less about talent and more along the line of a pitchers stuff seems to be always in decline. I worry less about service time with these guys and would rather just use them while they are healthy and have the ability.

Ideally we bring Soroka up this season after the Super 2 cutoff.

But even with the decline of a guy like Tehearn. We still got surplus value out of the deal. But you hit a guy like Verlander/Archer with an early contract and you are set.

Wonder what the corresponding move is going to be. Soroka is coming up at the latest mid-way through the year. Do we go 6 man rotation or does a trade happen? Do we leverage the 10 day DL?

I'm not saying never do it. But I'm not going to blindly extend every guy we have. And service time with these guys just don't matter nearly as much as position player studs.

The guy has to have ability.

At this time I would extend the following guys:

    Acuna
    Albies
    Swanson
    Newk
    Gohara
    Soroka
    Minter

I wouldn't even bat an eye to do it either.
