Asked to describe his talks with the Phillies last night, Boras said "I'll leave that to the Phillies." Not the kind of response you'd expect if things went well in his eyes.

Rays are among teams to circle back on Realmuto. They have the young players to make it work if want. Zunino acquired a few weeks back, so interesting.

Gray is a FA after this season and I can see that as something of a plus for the front office. If it looks like we're not going to be able to get a TOR starter, getting a guy like Gray to fill out the rotation and who wont soak up resources beyond this year could be an attractive option for AA. Especially since Gray is a bit of a bounce back candidate. It's definitely something I could see the front office doing.
Personally, I'd probably rather see the Braves give guys like Wright, Fried, Touki, Soroka, and Gohara a chance to fight it out over the last spot or two in the rotation. I think there's a good chance you'd get more production.
I'm so concerned that as soon as we deal someone like Fried or Gohara, that's when they'll turn the corner and break out. These aren't High-A pitchers. These are major league ready, controllable assets. If it clicks for one of them, they could be a 3 WAR pitcher very quick.

Correct...as far as the AL goes this year, you'd imagine that the Red Sox win the east, Indians win the central, and the Astros win the West.
From there you have basically a 3 team race between the Yankees, Rays, and A's as WC options. The A's are suspect as far as repeating what they did last season. There is a real good chance that the east has 3 playoff teams next season

2/30 for Morton with an option, seems fair.

Reds and Marlins continue to engage on Realmuto, though Cincy has so far held the line and not agreed to include Nick Senzel

Max Kepler is exactly the type of player that the Dodgers have gone after in the past to build up their depth. The find these players that other teams are undervaluing (market inefficiencies) and they get them for good value. Then those players end up churning out 3 win seasons while getting ~450-500 at bats in rotation with other players who fit the same mold. By acquiring all these low cost players with upside, they are able to spend larger resources on free agents and contract extensions for the guys that they really want to keep long term.
The Patriots have been doing similar things in the NFL. They find the diamonds in the rough for cheap, turn them into top notch NFL players, and as soon as the market catches up they cut them lose by trading them for more value and finding a similar replacement. That is exactly what they did by drafting Jamie Collins and dumping him once he became one of the best linebackers in the league for a year or two. He's still a good player, but now the Browns are stuck overpaying him.

If Yankees sign Happ then Phillies will go all in for Dallas Keuchel! We probably will need to go for a trade.
2/30m on Morton.
Pretty solid deal there. the Rays have plenty of salary room and this should keep them out of any long term trouble.
Morton ends up going for 15 AAV. Right between the 14m and 16m we talked about last week as acquisition price for 3 WAR guy.
This might make more sense to me than long deal with Keuchel.

We could use a bullpen arm but i view another bat as a bigger need.
As backend options we currently have: Sobotka, Minter, Viz, O'Day, Venters, with guys like Winkler, Freeman, Fried, Carle, Biddle, etc.
Certainly not an elite pen by any means but it's alot better than we had when we opened last year and had guys like Jose Ramirez, Moylan and Rex Brothers in the pen as well as Freeman. There's much better options there now. Could obviously use another high leverage arm but im not sure its the biggest need right now. Good listen and i can defintely see Philly sign Kimbrel if they whiff on Machado and Harper.
