Knowing what ball MLB will use next year would help. If they continue to use the live HR ball, then guys like Teheran (high BB/9, high HR/9) have diminishing value.
I see the rotation next year as being: Folty, Soroka, Fried then a guy or two like Odorizzi, Smyly, Wheeler or maybe a trade for a guy like Kluber. Plus, we may see Newk back in for another shot after a year in the bullpen. So, let's say: Wheeler, Folty, Soroka, Fried and Smyly (or Kluber) with Keuchel and Teheran's money ($32+M) going to pay for Wheeler and Smyly (or Kluber) with a little left over.
I think they’ll make a run at Bumgarner. They like that veteran presence in the rotation and he has tons of it. He’s no ace like DK but he brings stability to a group of young guys. I’d be fine with a rotation of Soroka, Bumgarner, Folty, Fried, and Anderson

I mean here’s how I see the situation with Teheran. The past 2 years we’ve made the playoffs. Both times the team elected not to use Teheran to start playoff games. Hell this year it would have actually made the most sense to give Teheran the game 4 start but the team still opted against it. That all being the case why pay him that money? If we want some meh vet just plop Tomlin in the rotation.
Tehearn is fine as a #5 that will eat 180ish innings to a 4ERA tune. He's not an awful value at $11M, but I'm hoping we can upgrade that. Just don't know who's out there on a short term deal
"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
Given all the needs we have, i dunno if spending 11-12 mil on Julio is wise.

Teheran is going to be an interesting call, and I can see arguments from both sides.
Ideally, AA can combine the savings from Teheran with a little more cash to bring in an upgrade like MadBum or Wheeler on a short deal.
Unfortunately, his option must be decided upon before AA knows whether or not he can get an upgrade of that caliber in a short term deal since those deals tend to happen late in the game.
I suspect my play would be to decline the option and bank once the fact that pitcher of Teheran’s caliber or better will be available late in the offseason, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see them take the risk averse approach and pick up the option.
