How sweet would it be if we hit on Nacho too and he could be our next starting SS after Arcia. Although I’ve heard there are doubts he can remain at SS.

We are good to need to hit on a few to be able to re-sign some of these guys in a few years.

Strider after the game said he liked how the curve worked and he plans to continue using it in the regular season. RIP MLB hitters.

Anybody have the data on how this curveball graded out? Because it looks to me much better than just a “passable, throw it eight times a game” pitch ….. but rather a weapon.

I’m not sure how you could make this determination. What are you basing this opinion on? The game wasn’t even on tv.

Bowman’s description: “His slider consistently sits 84-85 mph, but now opponents will have to look for the curve, an 80-82 mph pitch which has a little more vertical break than the slider.”

Snit’s comments: “That’s a real curveball too,” Snitker said. “I had a hard time telling the difference between [the curve and slider] a couple times. That was kind of nice for him to be able to throw it against another team, too.”

It sounds to me like the curve is what most guys actually have when they claim to have both pitches…a single pitch that probably isn’t consistently a slider or a curve. Once we have real data we will know for sure, but it certainly doesn’t sound like it’s appreciably different from the slider yet.

He probably would have been better off fine tuning the change to give a radically different 3rd pitch rather than adding a new pitch that looks very similar to the slider.

The video posted above ….and what the fellas on radio were saying about it. Sorry if a little enthusiasm and optimism bothers you so much.
    Enjoy the day !

So based on a single video of a single pitch from the worst angle possible that compares a single breaking ball to a single fastball, and in no way compares the 2 breaking balls. Oh, and dinosaurs on the radio who know absolutely nothing about pitch shapes, or anything about modern pitching development.

    Got it.

I apologize for being skeptical of the yearly spring training homerism. Carry on!

Game 2 lineup. That lineup looks familiar except 8-9

    Acuna RF
    Albies 2b
    Riley 3B
    Olson 1B
    Ozuna DH
    Murphy C
    Arcia SS
    Luplow LF
    White CF

Bryce The Elder on the mound

Won't read too hard into the first outing in Spring Training. Still think Bryce Elder has rotation spot locked-up... in AAA

One thing about AA is he has generally shown loyalty won't get in the way of roster optimization. If Elder stinks it up, I think a good chance he breaks camp in AAA.

Well, at least we got to watch him start a playoff game he should have never been in position to start.

I'm not going to throw Elder under the bus. He is who he is. Back-end rotation guy. I think he may end up being a reminder that there's a lot of guys who can have a season and there's even more guys who can tear up a half-season. It all depends on how those in front of him perform before we can determine whatever value he may have. He's probably scrambling with Vines, Dodd, and Winans for the fifth spot (depending on if Lopez is slated for #4).

Nine walks today from our battery.

    Elder did himself no favors.
