Hopefully he was just joking because I was told the opposite about Jenkins.
Sadly, this is all I can think about when I hear the kid's name.
I think he's being sarcastic? I've only read he's a great teammate and coachable.
He's also still coming back from injury. I prob wouldn't promote him, but I'm not down on him because of his numbers at the moment.
The problem is that his performance this year isn't really unusual. He had a very nice rookie league campaign in 2011, but ever since he's been either injured or bad. He's young and everyone raves about the stuff, so there's no need to jettison him or anything, but we're quickly approaching put up or shut up time.
Based on what I saw in ST I don't see how his stuff doesn't play in the big leagues. He just needs refinement because he is still raw.

Well, health has been an issue pretty much the whole time. Not that that's a good thing by any means, but if he can remain fully healthy for a period his alleged stuff should help his numbers improve.
The year began with much talk about limiting Jenkins' innings. He moves to AAA with four complete games -- unheard of in the minors these days, even if most of them were seven-inning games.

His K rate was good in rookie ball and it was also good the next year in A ball, where he K'd 8.7/9 as a 19-year-old. The following year is when the injuries first hit, and his K rate has been down since.
So I don't think it's ridiculous to suggest his lowered K rate may still have something to do with the injury and his recovery. It does need to come up but he's been promoted fairly aggressively even with the injuries, so he may still be catching up. I probably would prefer he stay in Mississippi to finish the year, but we'll see what happens.

Except a healthy, effective Tyrell Jenkins is largely a theoretical construct at this point. When we're talking about pitching prospects, "He's not bad, he's just hurt all the time" isn't actually encouraging.

Sure, but no one said it is. The injury and lack of innings are the risks with Jenkins, and the K rate has something to do with both. The point is simply that adding a low K rate onto the injury issues as an additional negative is really just counting it twice.
Jenkins is a risk because of the injury history and the fact that he has lost development time above A ball. That's basically it; the K rate is just a symptom of that.
For all you concerned with Jenkins' bb and strike out rates, he's thrown 4 ip with 0 bb and 4 k's in his first AAA start. Obviously he's fixed haha
I do think he may be the best of folty, wisler, Perez, and banuelos. Not sure where to put fried in my rankings yet
I just find it hard to believe that anyone who watched him in ST could not think his stuff will play in the big leagues. Frankly, I'm shocked that he doesn't have higher K rates in the minors because his stuff is top notch.
