Family Gets Lost at Sea After Seeing Where God Would Lead Them

An Arizona family got lost at sea for weeks after they attempted to flee the U.S. because of government interference in religious matters.

Hannah Gastonguay, 26, told reporters that she and her husband had “decided to take a leap of faith and see where God led us” when they boarded a small boat and tried to sail with their two young children from San Diego to the tiny island nation of Kiribati.

The Gastonguay family took to the sea because of their opposition to "abortion, homosexuality, in the state-controlled church.” They no longer felt that the United States was a good home for them, and set out to fit a new, more accepting land. They chose Kiribati, which is in the middle of the Pacific, because, as Hannah Gastonguay explained, "we didn’t want to go anywhere big.”

Setting off in May, the Gastonguay family immediately hit a series of storms which left them adrift in the ocean for weeks. They soon began running low on food and supplies, as their boat continued to take damage from one storm after another.

"We didn’t feel like we were going to die or anything," Ms. Gastonguay said. "We believed God would see us through."

The family was finally found by a Venezuelan fishing vessel, which took them to safety. According to Gastonguay, the Captain told them "Do you know where you’re at? You’re in the middle of nowhere."

The family was eventually dropped off at the U.S. embassy in Chile, where they will now fly home today, courtesy of the same government that has so seriously interfered with their religion.

They were lucky they never made it....or maybe God knew better and steered them back.

The Sex Lives of Cannibals tells the hilarious story of what happens when Troost discovers that Tarawa is not the island paradise he dreamed of. Falling into one amusing misadventure after another, Troost struggles through relentless, stifling heat, a variety of deadly bacteria, polluted seas, toxic fish—all in a country where the only music to be heard for miles around is “La Macarena.” He and his stalwart girlfriend Sylvia spend the next two years battling incompetent government officials, alarmingly large critters, erratic electricity, and a paucity of food options (including the Great Beer Crisis); and contending with a bizarre cast of local characters, including “Half-Dead Fred” and the self-proclaimed Poet Laureate of Tarawa (a British drunkard who’s never written a poem in his life).

So was this god slapping them in the face, or how are they interpreting this one?
Reminds me of the people who refuse medicine, instead opting for prayer. God didn't save you family member, that doctor did.

I'm simply shocked they didn't magically make it wherever their hearts led them.

Just because a lot of people believe in a magic man in the sky doesnt make it any less crazy. If one man believes in imaginary things we lock them up in the nut house. If a small group believe in imaginary things we call them a cult. If a whole lot of people believe in imaginary things we call it a religion. I honestly think most people just pretend for social reasons because they are incapable of thinking for themselves. I dont mind people who practice what they believe in, but the ones that say they believe and then dont follow their own religion piss me off.

You know some atheists are assholes. You know some atheists are idiots. You know some atheists are murderers. You know some are child-molesters. You know some are racists. You know some atheists are lunatics.... Follow where that takes you...

And I call you religious. So?

People who blindly accept what they were raised to believe are the ones who would be suicide bombers if they were born in Palestine. They are the people who would have been the racist slave owners. They would have been the Nazi's in Germany. The people who think outside the box are the ones who were abolitionists and the Germans who tried to help the ***s. Religion is fueled by the ignorant. Religion is dieing because information is becoming so widely available. Projections show that by 2025 people who believe in a religion will be the minority of human population. The US will lag behind the rest of the world but it will happen here. You can argue the projections but the trend is clear. It is only a matter of how long it will take.

I don't necessarily disagree with this post, but are you implying the same is not true for people who were raised as an atheist?

Blindly accepting anything is a bad idea.

As is, by the way, blindly disregarding anything.

I agree with that. If there's anything I'm going to instill in my kids it's going to be to think for themselves and to encourage them to think critically.

That's really no argument - or one, like your last one, that cuts both ways - like weso points out.

And you are nuts if you think religion is dying. Totally off the mark. And you don't really get the "you are religious too" thing do you?

Oh, and it's a hoot that you mention abolitionists (can we say William Wilberforce) and those who helped the ***s (can we say Corrie ten Boom)....
