A lot of prospect evaulators have mentioned that the Braves are basically in the top 10 or if not very close to it. Roy Clark and his staff is back. The future is very strong.

There is plenty of ML ready legit pitching, and more in the minors. I don't think 2017, or even 2016, is out of the question for us to make a little noise.
They completely gutted the position player scene except for Freeman. Whats left on the pitching side is 3 guys that have pitched in the majors that have a chance to be pretty good major league starters and a few minor league prospects. (which 50 points out, maybe 1 in 10 work out). I would call it a pretty full on rebuild when you are only left with Freeman, Wood, and Teheran plus the acquired Miller. (and Kimbrel, which will be a wasted asset until traded)

How many teams are loaded with young talent, but still can't reach the playoffs? or are loaded for a number of years before reaching the playoffs?

I'd came around to accepting that we'd be punting in 2015 because with Fredi still managing I didn't see us going anywhere with him anyway. But this off-season outside of a few trades has been a total nightmare. Further, we are not just punting 2015 with this tear-down. We have put ourselves in a position to lose at least the next two years if not longer.

Can you link me the long list? Or at least maybe just 5-10 of them?

So there are people that think we have a better chance of competing in 2017 by trading for a lot of injured prospects and hoping they turn into something in two years so they become trade worthy for good position players rather than trying to hold on to the good position players we had and adding around them? I'm selling jars of air if any of you are interested. Seriously why would any of you think this team is going to surprise anyone and be in the wild card hunt? You do realize that our OF defense being significantly worse is going to hurt the performance of our FLYBALL pitching staff right?
All you need is Hart and Cox.

Did we have a realistic shot at keeping those players?

Yes. The Braves could have afforded Justin or Jason. They chose not to because they don't think they are as valuable as they really are.

As most people believe they are. Jason and Justin will both sign for 25+

And then we will find out if that was a worthwhile contract the next 6-8 years. I think it could definitely go either way.

The Braves will eventually have to pony up on someone like Heyward or Justin if they want to being any kind of serious contender.

When an organizational lifer who learned the ropes with the team leaves during a new GM's tenure and then immediately comes back after said GM is fired I think I have very good reason to believe that was the reason. I've heard some other things as well but that isn't worth mentioning here because it will be dismissed.

I think the Braves will pony up for someone who can consistently hit a baseball. I would have extended Upton. I would hope they attempted to do so.

Justin Upton is not a consistent hitter.

I think BJ killed us on JUp. It can't be comfortable to play for an org where your brother is the albatross. BJ's contract is a big reason for all of these trades.

Hard for me to see him signing on long term knowing we'd pay someone 25 million to take his brother. He's a person, not just a baseball player.

I'm hoping that we somehow land some college hitter who can get to the majors in a year or two like Wood did......I don't think it will happen, but I'm going to hope.

More consistent than Heyward in terms of overall production year to year.

Heyward will be paid primarily for his potential upside, defense, and baserunning. All of those diminish quickly after 30. No thank you.

Yeah, thats probably the reason why he wasn't extended.

Compared to Heyward, he's a batting champ
