To an extent but not fully. The K's are the reason Castillo is still a decent pitcher even with his high BB rate. But there's more to it than simply control. Command in the zone is hugely important too. Soroka makes so many quality pitches in the zone. Pitches that hitters just can't do anything with.

Castillo isn't a bad pitcher, he's just produced like a middle of the rotation pitcher. There's still upside there.

Have you guys ever read those Fansided articles by the Jake Mastroianni guy?

I get a real kick out of some of his hot takes.

.275 xWOBA and 3.7bWAR in 2019 suggest otherwise

He's probably playing over his head a bit, but still a good player. I prefer Boyd if we're dealing for a guy.

I'm not against Castillo. I just don't like the elite starter pricetag.

My preference was Wheeler. Don't know now

At worst Castillo is a really good #2. You're gonna have to send a big haul in order to get a guy like that who is 26 years old and controlled cheaply through his age 30 season.

I'm one of the most conservative trade theorists on this board, but I would trade quite a bit to add Castillo to this roster. I'd do a trade that looked something like this in a heartbeat:

    One of Waters/Anderson/Wright
    One of Wilson/Wentz/Muller
    One of Jenista/Tarnok/Burrows
    Plus a little filler

I wouldn't do much more than that, but Castillo is the type of guy that I'd make that deal for.

I guess we'll see soon enough. I'm not really convinced that AA does anything to the rotation, but instead deals someone like Ender for pen help.

We won’t go anywhere in the playoffs if we don’t have another strong starter to pair without Soroka imo. Soroka/Castillo would be that 1 2 punch you want leading the staff. And it’s not like he’d only be here for a year or 2, he’s controlled for 3-4 more years.

Rangers having lost 4 in a row are now 4thin their division. I would love to bring back Mike Minor

Morosi: #Braves are open to a reunion with LHP Mike Minor, but serious trade talks with the #Rangers have yet to begin.

I just don't see the point in Minor unless we're sending them organizational filler. I think both Folty and Gaus are better options down the stretch.

Whether I'd want Minor depends on the price. He's a middle of the rotation guy (the sub-3 ERA is due a regression) who would probably be our 4th best starter. As long as the price is equal to that and it doesn't keep us from getting someone better, I'm fine with it.

One thing I like about Minor is that he could potentially be a weapon out of the pen in the playoffs. He's very good against lefties and was a pretty fantastic reliever for the Royals a couple years ago.

I thought about the possibility of having him in the pen as well, but the acquisition cost is going to be based off him as a starter. We can find a LOOGY for much cheaper. Newk and Fried also fall into this category as well, though certainly Minor is better at this point.

Minor won't be cheap. No way. If we want him, it'll be for a legit piece or two or three solid ones.

I just read yesterday that Minor may be on some kind of innings limit in the second half, that is the only thing that gives me pause. He is one of my favorites and would love to see it if we know for sure he can stand a workload all the way through the playoffs.

Minor didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Astros, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings while striking out seven.

    ANALYSIS

After posting very impressive numbers in June (3-0, 1.70 ERA, 0.97 WHIP in five starts), Minor has stumbled in July, failing to pitch into the sixth inning in his starts on either side of the All-Star break. The 31-year-old southpaw still has a sharp 2.73 ERA and 121:44 K:BB through 122 innings on the year, but after throwing 157 IP in 2018 -- his first time as a regular member of a rotation since 2014 -- there could be some workload concerns with Minor in the second half. He'll look to get back on track Friday in a road rematch with Houston.

No thanks on Minor bc I think he’s a big enough upgrade. If we get another starter then get a difference maker.

Keuchel is a mid rotation starter that gets a lot of value by eating up innings. I get that he won a cy young a few years back but that's not the pitcher he is today.
