Why are we interested in Drew Storen?

Guy is on the decline, a free agent after this season, and pouts unless he closes. Jays would have to just be giving him away.

Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports that the Blue Jays have told teams Drew Storen is available via trade.
The Jays surely aren't in sell mode even after a disappointing start, but it does appear they're willing to deal their setup man for the right return. Storen holds a 7.80 ERA on the season and has seen his velocity drop, although he boasts a 16/4 K/BB ratio across 15 innings. He'll be a free agent after the season. Elliott says scouts from the Braves, Rockies, Royals, Dodgers, Marlins, Padres and Giants were watching the Jays-Twins series this weekend.

Just says we were scouting the game, not scouting Storen specifically.

I wonder how we could match up? I haven't really considered them as a trade partner for us .

Twins have two (tradable) competitive balance picks in the June draft: #73, and #74.

what would you give up for those picks. I just don't see much value in those.

Because we should be acquiring talent anywhere we can. He's been horrible this year but has had a lot of success late in games.

Even if you don't think we'll get a great talent at that stage in the draft, adding to our draft pool might be worth a decent amount. We could take a highly signable player that won't command much money and use the savings on a player in the 40s.

Is Toronto limited on their International Pool this year? If so, Braves might be thinking of taking on salary so as to acquire more $$$ (or as other's mentioned adding a draft pick)

Aside from that, the only reason I can think to add Storen early is to hope he has a good 2 months and then flip him at the deadline for a better return than you paid

And can use rotation and pen help - both now and in the future - and it's not like we don't have arms.

Just a waaaaay out there thought but if the Twins aren't going to move Sano back to 3B, he'd certainly make sense as a power bat target for us.

The Braves could be scouting anyone on either team. Bautista will be a FA too. Both of those guys could be FA targets this offseason, though I assume Bautista will be out of the Braves price range.

It just says that scouts were there from those teams over the weekend. It doesn't not mean that they were there for every game, and it does not necessarily mean that any/all of them were even specifically scouting Storen.

I could see a deal with us taking Nolasco and his contract back.

That's an interesting scenario. He's pitching pretty well this year.

Don't think they'll take Nolasco's contract on - it runs through next season with an option for 2018. Just a guess, but we're probably only willing to take on deals that expire this year.

Acquiring Nolasco might make the Braves feel a little better about dealing Teheran for a nice prospect haul. That would give us a veteran for the rotation for next season, as well as a potentially tradable asset for the 2017 deadline. The free agent crop next year is crap anyway - the plans of making a big splash with a high dollar FA to open the park have to be scrapped by now.

All the more reason to hang onto Julio until this winter - when everybody's looking for someone. Just don't think you want to deal him now when the Miller deal is still so fresh in everyone's minds and half the teams who might bid on him are already out of it (or getting close). If you're only going to deal him if you're blown away, chances are that that comes closer to happening during the offseason.

Given what we expect to land between the draft this year and next plus the international signings, I'm not sure it's not better to hang onto him and that contract and deal from the other prospect arms anyway. JMO.
