I don't know many times it must be repeated, but that line is extremely misleading. He averaged 1.5 WAR due to 1 poor season that he played with an injury. He was 2 plus WAR player the other seasons ( even in 2012 he was easily on his way to a 2+ WAR season before his injury).

There's a time and place for Juan. Like when we are behind or in 15+ inning games where the hitters are so tired that they can't get solid contact in his fastball. That mccringlberry kid or whatever his name is was good though.

Jaime is our very own Nuke LaLoosh.

Chicks dig the longball and scouts dig the big-time fastball.

I think the valid point is why Jaime is on the roster in the first place. Last night, people were kind of carping about the overuse of Avilan, but you can't have it both ways. If you have guys in the bullpen, you're probably going to have to use them at some point and I don't think this team is going to have the luxury of being on the winning side of a lot of laughers, meaning you're probably going to have to have a bullpen full of guys who can pitch in medium-to-high leverage situations. I think Fredi got bit a little today when the inning went a bit longer than conceived when Martin entered the game and he was pinch-hit for. My guess is Fredi would have sent him out for the 8th if that hadn't happened. If Fredi can rightly be blamed for anything, it's that he should have pulled a double-switch when Martin entered the game.

Don't forget the big news about how Fredi had more of a say on the roster this year.

I did start daydreaming about some day about a month from now while watching ESPN or MLB Network, while half paying attention, to hear one of those random stats about how the Braves are the first team in MLB history to start 5-0 and lose 15 of their first 30 games.

I guess that's why I brought up Fredi's decision not to double-switch when Martin entered the game. I see this as a team that's going to have to win a lot of close games to get near .500. That means Fredi is going to have to manage his jock off. Don't count me among the "Fredi is a sh*thead" crowd, but, like the players, he's going to have to leave it all on the field this year. He doesn't have the luxury to sit back and let the talent take care of things. It's going to be a lot about match-ups and efficient use of resources.

To be fair, it's been our biggest problem since 2011.

Fredi is going to get it coming and going, and sometimes it's going to be unfair, but one has to concede that he's given the critics some ammunition.

I agree that he's going to need to get the most out the guys he has, but it seems like he's got the pieces to be able to double-switch pretty aggressively. Callaspo can play two positions. Jace can play at least 2. KJ can play 2B, IF corners, and LF. EY can play all over the place, ditto Gosselin. Anyone on the field except the C, Freeman, and Simmons can be removed late without missing much of a beat. It's funny to think that we're in a position to be wanting Fredi to manage MORE, but that may be just where we are.

So aside from the years he can't stay healthy or absolutley suck then he's a 2+ WAR player. Gotcha.

Whose to say Hart wants go give him 20-25 mil a year?

That's a valid point that we've talked about before. I just think Heyward is worth that and the Braves can afford that. Maybe he intends to Kenny Lofton him. But there aren't many impact position players on the free agent market the new couple of years and the Braves are going to need to sign one if they want to contend in 2017.

Not a great loss especially after tieing the game, but more-so on Hart for having Jaime on the team.

All in all though, cant complain about 5-1.
