Surprised that nobody's launched into a rant yet. Even the malcontents are OK with this deal?

In the end you can see why this trade makes sense for the D-Backs and so it's not ridiculously bad.

The ridiculously bad trades are those that leave you scratching your head as to why one of the teams would do it. Like the Touki trade last year. I'd even put the Braves trade for Olivera as worse than this deal for the Diamondbacks. Olivera just made so little sense for the Braves.
I have to agree with you. (although, Tomas is not equal to Ender.. defensively or offensively).. But I applauded Zona for pushing their chips all in.. They have a much better core and much better team than say the Padres last year. I like them as a contender for the West. they need to sure up the BullPen.. but He paid a heavy price in assets to obtain a key piece they needed to help them win. Other teams where being 'cheap' with theirs and lost out. Now the market is set and it is going to be hard for a team like the Dodgers and Cubs to get this MOR pitcher without some quality prospects. It is their fault for waiting and allowing the market get set. I think Coppy/Hart did a great job playing this trade out..

they pulled a classic rope a dope move.. Braves.. we want Pollock for Miller.. Zona.. NO.. Braves.. ok we want Pollock and Blair for Miller and some pen help.. Zona.. NO.. Braves.. ok we want Pollock for Miller... Zona.. No.. Braves.. ok how about you give us Pollock and we throw in Miller.. Zona.. come on.. NO.. Braves.. alright you win.. we want Ender and your top two prospects and we will give you a lefty reliever plus Miller.. Zona.. N... oh wait.. you didn't say Pollock.. ok sure..

Respectfully, I disagree with the comparison of this deal to the Olivera deal. This ARI deal is an order of magnitude more lopsided than the Olivera deal. It's the Touki Touissant deal on a much larger scale. If we had the choice of taking a mulligan on the Olivera deal or doing this ARI deal, I would take this ARI deal without hesitation. I'd suggest that if you asked 100 MLB executives which of the two deals were more lopsided, somewhere between 98 and 100 would say the ARI deal (got to account for the chance that Stewart and LaRussa are asked).

According to Jesse Rogers (ESPN) the Braves asked for Kris Bryant from the Cubs in a potential Shelby Miller deal.

Really makes we wonder if the Braves were actually asking for both Baez AND Soler

I remember Rogers tweeting that earlier and thinking how ridiculous that was of the Braves.

    Apparently not that ridiculous. #teamstewandlaroooo

One has to question if this move even makes them better in 2016. Losing Ender will be a huge deal and Tomas will have to do a lot more than he's shown to come close to replacing him. It's not hard to see bothing Ender and Miller being of equal value in 2016.

Sherman: #Cubs finished 2d for Shelby Miller. Were willing to include Soler. But Atl liked #Diamondbacks deal too much to pass up

Man, thank you Coppy. We LOVED Soler and didn't give him. I love it.

I'm happy with what we got, but I agree with striker about the ARI side. They have a window, and Shelby fits that window. They lose Goldschmidt's prime years if they wait around to rebuild with kids. They may end up losing the gamble, but it's a reasonable gamble.

I would have loved Soler. But the problem with the Cubs was they didn't have the secondary pieces that fit our needs like the Dbacks did. Blair is a big deal in this

Blair is almost my favorite get. Not saying anything bad about the other guys, but his upside is very good. He's no Miller, but he's a good number 3, probably.

Pitchers of his ilk seem to have long careers just getting it done and likely wind up underappreciated (with their style of pitching)

Yea Blair definitely doesn't have the upside of Miller but he's a fantastic replacement for Miller. Swanson is the huge get tho

Why would they want Julio? You think he gave up a lot of home runs before. Watch him get shellacked in Wrigley.

Teheran for Soler would be great, especially if we could somehow find a way to trade Markakis at peak value. I think he'll have more power and less of everything else next year, so it would be great to trade him before his value plummets.
