The one thing I can think of is Payton said in that timeout to not interfere. The player, Rookie Marcus Williams, probably thought that and that’s what resulted.

Yeah that is entirely possible I suppose and could actually make sense. Still could have made a decision to jump straight up or something to avoid hitting Diggs. Bang bang decision, but he had enough time to make the decision to give up on the play.

Now it’s being said Mularkey is leaving on a mutual agreement.

Titans fan at work today said they wanted him to fire some of his staff and he didn’t want to do that. So now everyone is out of a job?

This looks like a classic "spot the other team a big lead then make a furious comeback when they start playing prevent defense but come up just short at the end" type Saints game.

The irony of that last play to me is that the safety has played all season with one role, prevent the big TD play like that. All season long he would always go for the sure stop even if it meant giving up 10 more yards. An example is an he would angle a runner out of bounds rather than charging in to make a tackle. He wasnt really a great safety but he was good at that one thing.



For me losses like this arent as bad because we won a superbowl and I never thought that would ever happen so everything else is gravy. Brees proved he is still the man. Father time might be undefeated but Drew has him in a hell of a headlock. I think too many people are getting caught up in nostalgia and remember Brees as being so much better than he is now. He really wasnt. He isnt as accurate on the deep balls but not every under thrown ball or inaccurate throw is because of losing arm strength. I watch 2009 games occasionally and let me tell you he made a lot of bad throws then too. As every QB does when they throw the ball 12000 times. The Saints team this year was just scratching the surface of their potential. Its hard to have a bad defense when you have All Pro talents like Jordan and Lattimore to build around. The only player of any real significance we could lose is Vaccaro who isnt great and was injured anyways. Should be a real threat for home field advantage next year.

But he almost managed to interfere because he dipped his head and mis-timed his approach to Diggs. Keep your head up in that situation.

Despite Mularkey and J-Rob’s close relationship, I think there may be some in fighting in regards to the offensive scheme. Maybe Robinson asked Mularkey to make a change in the offseason and Mularkey refused, so Robinson gave him an ultimatum: make a deep playoff run or you’re gone if you refuse to change. That’s the only way I can see both Robinson and the ownership doing a 180 on Mularkey after two relatively successful seasons and also being able to justify firing him.

Yep. I think we gotta get anew offensive minded coach in here or at least hire someone who's willing to concede offensive style and play calling to the OC.
