Looks like Dems are doing about as expected in the House and Pubs are doing a bit better than expected in the Senate and Governorships.

Gillum conceding in Florida now. Looks like Rick Scott will take the senate seat there as well.

Every democratic senator in a competitive race who voted against Cavanaugh lost. The only one who voted for him won

Blue wave in Minnesota. State House does go to DFL as they pick up between 15 and 17 seats, but as what appears to be going on in the rest of the country, Minnesota now is split between a blue urban/suburban area and red everywhere else. State Senate stays in Republican hands 34-33. US House races had four flips; two suburban seats flip to DFL, two outstate seats flip to R. DFL retains governorship and all other statewide offices, including Keith Ellison defeating Doug Wardlow for Attorney General in a bitter race. Ellison was in trouble until Wardlow was unmasked as the cultural warrior that he is. Klobuchar wins by > 20 percentage points and Smith wins by > 10 percentage points.

Nationally, I wasn't surprised that the Republicans gained numbers in the Senate. Not a good map for Democrats and it appears Kavanaugh wasn't the hill to die on.

actually picked up 7 Governor ships, control of the House and the Senate went as predicted.
And, Florida voted to restore 1.4 million voters

Wishing locally things went different where race WAS the factor.

Now, who wants to talk " identity politics " ?

people like Beto not winning in Texas and Abrams (maybe) not winning in GA really don't mean much. they had great showings - who thought texas could be that close? Georgia, even with all the voter suppression?! this was a great night for dems, and taking control of the House is YUGE. it was certainly a wave. lots of women elected, important ballot measures passed (1.4M people re-gaining the right to vote in FLA!). trying to spin this as a positive night for republicans is funny, but we're talking about people who support donald trump. expectations for those people are low, just like the expectations for their president.

scott walker going down is great, especially after rick santorum excitedly declared him a "zombie who just won't die!!" byeeeeee.

people voting terrifies republicans. it's bad for them when people vote. that says a lot, and i think turnout will remain high.

No, I don’t recall our conversations about Scott Walker (probably because we’ve never had any).

And I live in California, the vote here was particularly fascinating, between Governor Newsom and Representative Hunter and people voting to support gas taxes.

Speaker Pelosi. Not even liked by her own party, and more loathed than Obama in Republican circles.

Good to have a pariah like this headed into 2020.

Gov. Tom Wolf won by 17%, Sen. Bob Casey won by 13% and Democrats picked up four Congressional seats (PA delegation now split 9-9). Great night for D's in Pennsylvania. After his boys Wagner and Barletta got trounced, Trump won't be spending much time here between now and 2020.

“For those who want impeachment, that’s not what our caucus is about,” House Minority Leader Pelosi (D-Calif.) told PBS’s “NewsHour” on Tuesday before her party clinched the majority. She said she would not move to impeach Trump unless at least some Republicans were on board.

Pelosi added that she will wait to see the outcome of the special counsel investigation, but noted that a call for impeachment “would have to be bipartisan, and the evidence would have to be so conclusive.”

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/power...=.8779888955f4

Pelosi's take is the right one. Impeachment is intrinsically political and would only make sense if some Republicans come out in favor of it. Short of that, the Democrats in the House will have the opportunity to exercise their oversight responsibilities and I expect them to do this vigorously.

The investigative work by the Times on Trump's business practices and taxes does open up an avenue that I expect them to pursue. I believe that Ways & Means has the authority to obtain his tax returns and I expect them to exercise that authority.

Just a little humor on this one, but here in OK there was a guy named E. Bay Mitchell. Needless to say anyone named E Bay would have a pretty good chance to win here in OK.

Sure, Pelosi is a San Francisco liberal and doesn't present all that well at times, but I am still having a difficult time determining why she is viewed as such a pariah. She has more backbone than 99% of the people serving in DC. There were a number of negative ads launched against DFL congressional candidates in Minnesota that featured Pelosi as a reason to vote Republican. I don't think it had much of an effect either way. Maybe Rs hate her so much because she can actually get things done.
