People are still trying to figure out why Joe Simpson cared so much about what players were wearing during batting practice.

He had an opinion. It was a stupid one
But it's his right to have an opinion.

    No need for an apology

i know. it's awful. how will the world survive? if we all apologized after we went on dumb rants on live TV against guys wearing t-shirts for cancer during baseball batting practice, can you imagine what kind of world it would be?
i'm outraged he apologized for saying something dumb. i'd much rather he bask in and own his ignorance.

I think it's the "bleed Dodger Blue" culture in which he spent the early part of his baseball career. Alston, Campanis, Lasorda and company are ancient history to younger fans, but the Dodgers had a really strong identity during that era that was drilled into players in that organization from Day 1.

Imagine if you had to make an official apology for every stupid opinion you've had on this board.

    We'd crash the site again

likewise. i'm with ya man. what an awful world we're living in. what if people become less ignorant and start being nicer and more accepting of different, harmless things. yuck!

totally man. such a shame that a guy can't go on an ignorant rant without his employer asking him to acknowledge how dumb it was afterwards. people should be allowed to say whatever they want on live TV without consequence from their employer. it's not like they represent them or anything, especially on live TV.
just sickening. world is going downhill fast.

MLB has a position called "inclusion ambassador". Sean Newcomb will be reporting to him for a diversity course.

    It's Billy Bean.

I venture to guess he won't be inclusive to low OBP players in this seminar.

Same pronunciation; different guy. This Billy Bean is gay. I met the other Billy Beane briefly when he played for the Twins and he's so handsome, I almost turned gay.

This person is trying to figure out why Joe Simpson still had a job before this silly little dunce moment.

I'd put the odds that his apology was sincere at around 2%. 98% chance that it was fake and that he is still basking in his own ignorance.

You know, Frenchy isn't much of an announcer, but when he's in the booth is refreshing to hear someone who actually seems to like baseball and isn't dead inside.

If I've learned one thing from this board, it's that ignorant people are convinced that they aren't really the ignorant ones, and nothing can make them think otherwise.

I was driving around Atlanta on vacation and caught a bit of the Braves/Nationals game a couple of weeks back and I thought Francoeur did pretty well in the booth. He didn't dazzle, but he neither chewed the scenery or offered inane thoughts.

I enjoy Joe. I am not sure why. I recognize that he isn't particularly insightful, and he certainly seems to be in the crotchety old man stage of life. Maybe it's simply because he is so familiar.

I wish Chip would retire or switch over to announcing dog shows or fishing tournaments. It's hard for joy to live within earshot of his voice.

    He's a happy guy.

And he has more recent insight on the game than Simpson. It was mildly interesting to hear him talk about facing Brach and illustrate what makes him difficult to deal with.

    A little more pleasant.

I don't mind Simpson. I think it IS that he is familiar. But I don't really care a whole lot if the broadcasters are genius analysts either.

I'm at a loss as to how his comments on the Dodgers wearing shorts to batting practice became a big deal.
