Acuna has put up some tremendous at bats today. Man lately he has looked the part of a superstar. It's starting to get real easy to dream on his potential.

Enscheff do you have any data on his stuff from that first appearance? I'd like to see it
He's thrown like 1 SL, so all we can even kinda grade is the FA.

    97.7 mph (Grade 70.8), 2.2" HMov (Grade 33.3), 9.9" VMov (Grade 57.2)

That's a grade 70 rising FA with very little running action. It should be an effective pitch up in the zone.

We are already seeing the command issues.

This Acuna is the guy I think we all expected. Hell, he’s been better recently than I even expected

Okay, we're seeing some of Sobotka's wildness now.

That is the thread where you called my .340 prediction of his BABIP 'clv level stupid'. You said he would fall into the .300-.320 range like everyone else and that once he did, he'd post an OPS in the low .700's this year.

Pitch trax seems to show Sobotka getting squeezed. Is that the case?

Acuna is going well right now. When excellent players are going well they play like superstars.

When he struggles again I'm sure folks will get down on him again.

It is stupid to hold back the mop up guy from pitching mop up innings just in case he is needed to pitch future mop up innings.

    I disagree. Allard is undependable.

You want to avoid using him in any situation where you would feel any pressure to pull him.

If he comes in and gets shelled the same way he was shelled the previous two times he pitched, you likely would have to pull him. And you not only haven't saved your pen, you've burned the only sacrificial lamb you have in your pen to cover the contingency of Folty coming out earlier than expected.

Which ordinarily is not a terrible thing but the Braves have something of a schedule problem.

You only want Allard in the game in long relief if you are ok with losing today, IMO.

So you're ok throwing him in a situation in which, let's say, Folty goes 4 and gives up 6 and has to come out...but not when we're up 7 late? Against Miami, I wouldn't want to concede the first situation...and it's incredibly unlikely he would blow the second.

Yeah if you can depend on Allard to preserve a 7 or 8 run lead, then what is he even doing up right now? Just to pitch in the occasional game where we are down by 6 runs so that we can lose by 15? To eat those innings? That is stupid. If he has a chance to eat innings during a 7 or 8 run winning game, let him do it. If he blows it, then he has no business being up and he should be sent down immediately. Mop up duty is mop up duty.

Kid was up to like 45 pitches on a HOT day. Probably a bit gassed, but still held velocity. He wasn't missing by a ton.

Really liked what I saw from Sobotka though. Seems to be a keeper.

What I'm saying is that I would do everything I could do not to allow Allard to pitch under most any circumstance.
