Actually I tell my kids that is takes someone brave to admit they were wrong and take ownership. You sort of did that and I commend you for it.

changing one's mind on an issue based on new information/a well-reasoned argument is what a coward does?

I don't get upset much anymore, so I'm not going to get righteously indignant here. Hernandez played in a different era when guys were brushed back with regularity for reasons far less than simply playing well. Some guys just didn't like other guys and an occasional message pitch would be delivered out of the blue. I think Hernandez qualified his remarks by noting that the modern game doesn't treat these incidents in the same manner as they were handled during the era in which he played.

I doubt Urena is going to have a Phi Beta Kappa key swinging around his neck anytime soon, because if you want to send a message to Acuna, you surely wouldn't do it by going 98 at the rib cage on the first pitch of the game. I'm not defending Urena by any stretch. Today's game is what it is and you certainly have to play within those rules and, for the most part, I think the rule changes governing this kind of stuff are a necessary step given how hard guys throw now.

I am not arguing or trying to defend my position. There isn’t a point. You are a pompous jerk who can’t have a civil discussion without resorting to hurling insults.

Stephen A Smith just vehemently responded to Hernandez. Basically said players are paid to compete, not whimp out and hit batters because they don’t want to bother to try and get them out.

FTR, this has nothing to do with the Mets, it’s just one guy’s opinion.

Stephen A. Smith knows what about baseball?

I'm not gonna listen to Hernandez but I think this is all overblown. One good thing, maybe this will lead to a hallway skirmish between Joe Simpson and Keith Hernandez.

I was pissed off the dude threw at him.

The dudes team and teammates certainly don't seem to be behind him.

but it's not the most heinous thing that has ever happened. Can we lighten up, just a tad.

Again the reason it is making such waves is not that he hit Acuña. It is the moment that was at hand. Imagine a pitcher plunking cal Ripken the game before he broke the streak. Basically Urine cowardly took an opportunity for baseball fans to witness history as it happened. His first at bat was a special moment for baseball fans not just Braves fans. And Urine was a chicken **** coward that chose to handle it like that.

And what do you know about baseball? What do I? What do any of us? Is there a PHD in baseball out there? Come on man. Not saying that Smith is the final authority on anything. But it was an entertaining and thought provoking commemtary. Statements like “What does so and so know” are pretty juvenile.

Folks here are irrationally mad that Acuna was hit with a pitch because they like Acuna.

Folks here get mad at opposing players for bat flips, but Acuna gets a pass because they like Acuna.

Folks here were happy to see Hamels plunk Harper in 2012 because they don't like Harper.

Just admit the bias and move on. Batters get hit intentionally. Acuna got hit intentionally. It's not any worse than any other player getting hit intentionally, but folks here are going to moan about it for weeks.

idk, i personally would not support any player anywhere getting hit with a 97.5 MPH fastball. that's a pretty blatant attempt to injure. and i now think plunking in general is stupid and an outdated "unwritten rule." maybe i didn't 6 years ago with harper.

Huh? I don’t remember any one being in favor of the Harper plunking, except for probably the usual homers like striker or Cajun who hate every player who plays for our rivals.

I don’t generally condone beanings for “showing up” the other team, but this was far removed from even that. Acuna got plunked simply for being successful. Urena was being a sore loser/fake tough guy, it’s that simple. And he could have upended our season, or worse, Acuna’s career with an 97 MPH FA at the front of the torso. So, yeah, I’m pretty upset about that, and I don’t think there is anything irrational about it.

And how did you react last year when a Bautista bat flip vs the Braves cleared the dugouts?

I'm willing to bet I can find 50 posts where folks on these boards called for him to be drilled with a pitch.

Now that Acuna flips his bat it's all good?
