Three rockets = two outs and runner on first.

Sucky inning. We likely should have had 2-3 runs.

it is. It all evens out, though. The hits will fall and bloops that the Rockies hit last night will go our way.

Perhaps Enscheff can weigh in here because deGrom is 30 and has done nothing but get better since he was about 26 or 27. However, our very own Sean Newcomb is 25 and, by all metrics appears to be in decline.

What are the factors that drive the difference in trajectories between the two pitchers?

it's all about probalities... DeGrom is like six sigma out in the right handed tail...when making decisions about any player you have to consider the range of possible outcomes and try to weight them appropriately

Rarities, like a Scherzer who only went from good to great by age 28.

(FTR: It seems Folty might be on a path of being a rarity himself)
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
