The Braves are in a good bargaining position here, and I really hope John Hart knows it. LAD is widely reported to be pursuing Price. Time is of the essence for them. Hart needs to use that leverage to get at least a little more back . . . or walk away.

Yeah, I agree -- I think I could ultimately sit on it if Johnson's money were included.

But still a bitter pill to swallow.

At some point we're just gonna need to release this guy. He can't even get at bats over our dud minor leaguers... no team will trade for him

I wonder if the Braves move both Teheran and Wood today.

I'd be on board with moving Teheran...

Wood was out best pitcher. I wanted an elite prospect for him. We got a solid 30 year old with no major league at bats. Unbelievable

Nah. We have Miller the future cy young winner. He's our best pitcher.

I'm still chewing on nsacpi's point about stockpiling hitters in this "current environment" versus stockpiling pitchers. I think you could look at it in 2-3 years and reach a totally different conclusion. Pitching - good pitching - is nearly always a valuable commodity.

And the fact of the matter is, you have to know who you are. The Braves Way(c) is very much based on having more and better pitching than everybody else. Pitching is what we know, pitching is what we develop. We're a pitching first organization, and have been for a quarter century. I mean, we have pioneered the position of Tommy John recovery coach! We've made 46 trades in the last nine months and gotten pitching in every single one of them. Our draft was entirely pitching. And people know, and will continue to know, when they need an Alex Wood or fall in love with the grit of Randall Delgado, that the Braves are ready to deal.

One more thought - I'd rather stockpile young pitching than young hitting because I don't think we can afford dead money and, Upton and Uggla notwithstanding, post-arb pitching that you sign or trade for is like flicking your lighter next to the gasoline can. Hitting is certainly more predictable and trustworthy as it enters that 28+ phase, and even then it's dicey. But I think the Braves have got it right.

You think the Tigers feel good about what they have tied up in Verlander? Edwin Jackson looked like a decent mid-rotation signing in the beginning of his deal. The "really smart" Cubs just gave up trying to trade him and released him outright, eating like $10m. Is there a chance Jon Lester degenerates toward the end of his deal? Yes, and a pretty good one.

Funny how the board is reacting in the same manner as when Heyward was traded. If this trade ends up smelling like roses I hope the fanbase will show more faith in the front office

The Braves will not be above .500 in 2016 unless the team spends major bucks in FA.

That's asinine for you to say that without having a clue of who we will acquire.

As the team is currently constructed, we should be worse. We just lost our best pitcher

Yeah, this deal would make more sense if Wood wasn't involved at all.

Yes, sc, but having watched the Johns for nine months, what do you think the odds are that they got bent over? They're mighty smart guys.

They might have a deal that's a draw with a smart guy like Friedman or butt**** an idiot like Preller, but I doubt they got hosed. Better wait until we see the actual deal before assessing that.

Well, Heyward has outperformed Miller this year. We lost our shot to sign him long term. We lose the competitive balance pick (which is probably more valuable than Jenkins).

I think "smelling like roses" is a little extreme.

It would have been much better if we got Carlos Martinez, like we tried to do

The delay in the completion of the deal has to do with more than simply medical exams

Bowman backpedals very gracefully for a big man.
