Hell, they didn't call the Falcons for every hold they do.

But they were actually willing to make the calls against the Falcons. They ignored almost everything the Pats did in the second half, especially in critical situations. If that second half is called halfway evenly then the Falcons win by 21. The Patriots could have knifed a Falcon, set him on fire, and dragged the burning corpse around the field and you'd see the Falcons get called for unsportsmanlike conduct for littering the field with smoldering body parts.

It comes down to this, if you believe the NFL doesn't try to influence outcomes then I can't help you. You obviously believe that the NFL is the one multi-billion dollar enterprise run by angels and that the coincidental story lines that have played out are all just happy accidents. I've seen a little too much of the world to believe this. Leaders of multi-billion dollar enterprises would knife their grandmothers to boost their 4th quarter numbers and the NFL is no different. A blowout super bowl is a super bowl that sees a ratings drop which costs the NFL a lot of money. Success by smaller market teams means failure by larger market teams and a drop in NFL viewership.

I don't believe the NFL is rigging every game but I do believe they pull every string they can to quietly influence the direction of the season. I think anyone who blindly believes the NFL doesn't try to manipulate results to boost their bottom line is hoplessly naive.

LOL. No point arguing this nonsense homer talk. Best of luck next year.

I can't get there as far as "rigging outcomes". Just too many people to keep a lid on that. It would relegate the NFL to WWF soap opera status. THAT would cost them much more than the wrong team winning the SB.

We lost it outright. No question about it. Shananigan not running the ball pretty much locked it down for the Pats and their army of gold chain wearing jack offs.

if the NFL worked that way the Saints would have won the Superb Owl in 2006.

I know better than to discuss officiating or how leagues are run or anything of the like with Giles. Not sure what I was thinking. The ranks of officials and league executives are populated by angels according to Giles.

Also, no point in wishing me luck next year. I'm out as far as the NFL goes.

I don't think rigging is the right word. Rigging would require players and they'd never keep a lid on that. However, there are lots of strings they could silently pull. Officials can tip a contest easily. I've seen way, waaaaaaay to many games where the only explanation for what I'm seeing is the officials trying to influence the game. When that happens in a way that benefits the NFL's bottom line it's quite suspicious.

The D being on the field for 93 plays was just a back breaker. Run the ball twice and not lose 23 yards and we are home free most likely.

Still just in disbelief, but then I snap out of it and realize I'm a Falcons fan ...this is par for the course for us.
Falcons were so much more efficient than the Pats it isn't funny. The Pats won because they ran more plays and had every lucky break. Between the Edelman catch, the deflection that Bennett caught, and a few other lucky breaks. Falcons had no breaks go their way, **** happens. I fully expected it as a Falcons fan, but I admit for 3 quarters I thought it was going well, then wehn Freeman missed the block with the fumble, I knew it was over and something dumb (Edelman catch that could easily have been another pick for Alford) would ruin the day.

No play epitomizes the botchness of the Superbowl than thelast 2 pint conversion. Freeney wasn't offsides if you watch the ball not the Pats lineman. He broke right as the center started moving the ball, it was a perfect jump. He looked offsides because none of the Pats linemen moved much at the snap. ONly way he could have been offsides was if he lined up in the neutral zone. ANd the pats had 2 illegal picks on that play. 2 Both receivers were engaged and blocking falcons DBs before the ball was thrown.

I don't really care that the Falcons lost, it's the nature of which they lost that upsets me.

It wasn't totally an illegal formation (though he was over the center even if he wasn't head up), but it was a leaping penalty anyway as he came from the second level and leaped which is illegal. . So pick your poison

Leaping is "Running forward and leaping in an obvious attempt to block a field goal." It's leaping unless a player is lined up within a yard of the line of scrimmage. And you have to be lined up.

I guess you could say he didn't "land" on a player but he did make contact with a lineman on the way down. Only way I see that as not leaping is if he makes no contact at all.

I think I'm about the only one on the planet who said the Patriots were still going to win after going down 28-3. Even made a friendly wager with a dude at my party.

    Oh I don't?

Running forward and leaping in an obvious attempt to block a field goal or Try Kick and landing on players, unless the leaping player was originally lined up on the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.

    Let's check

    Ran forward - Check
Leaping in an obvious attempt to block a kick - Check
Landing on a player - Check. Notice is right leg landing on the guard's right shoulder
Gilesfan is an annoying twat who pretends to know so much about football but really doesn't - check.

Gilesfan conflates questioning officiating with being a homer.
