I had heard he would be added to the 40 man, and potentially called up. But I guess this is confirming it.

Looks like we'll waste a year of control of a [potential TOR pitcher so we can get 7 starts between now and mid-April

Because starting tonight means he'll be in the Opening Day rotation.

Keep in mind Gohara has work ethic issues and aggressively promoting him might keep him from getting complacent. Getting some MLB starts should give him the motivation to work hard in the off-season anticipating being in the starting rotation.

So the solution to handling a 20 year old with work ethic issues is to promote him the top level and then expect him not to become complacent once he gets there?

I swear, pozzies will come up with any reasoning they can to justify these promotions lol.

I thought you were fine with this promotion?

Besides, the Braves could start him tonight then shut him down for the for the year and lose exactly one day of service time. If we do keep him on the roster all month and the beginning of 2018, then I'll be disappointed, but I have absolutely zero problem rewarding a top performer.

Longenhagen says, "Mid-to-upper 90s with a good slider".

Based on recent promotions, that 94-99 FA will actually be closer to 92-95.

A "good slider" probably means 55+, which would translate to about 83+ MPH with 1-2 inches of movement in both directions.

I don't agree with the promotion, but I will certainly be watching. I suppose that's the point.

Saying I don't care as much about the service clocks for pitchers is not the same as saying I think this is a good idea.

There is literally no reason for Gohara to be pitching in Atlanta tonight other than someone wants to show the farm paying dividends to save their job.

The Braves already have 6 SPs on the roster for crying out loud. None of them are hurt. Why do they need to bring Gohara up?

So what you are saying is Longerhans doesn't know how to do his job?

    "There is literally no reason..."

Do you still think that even if this decision doesn't affect Gohara's service clock?

In other words, I don't see the reason to lose a year of control with Gohara over a handful of September starts, but I think the idea is just fine if we get one or two and he starts next season in AAA.

I don't think he or Fried will be on the opening day roster. If I had to guess we'll have a stocked AAA rotation and fill the major league rotation with vets or pitchers already up and look to trade a couple of them and call up whomever deserves it from AAA come June.

    40 man

At some point the FO is going to lose a player or more (either already on the team or a player it would like to take a chance on but can't) because it must protect them or lose them. In season, this isn't as a big a deal. However out of season when you're trying to bring in possibilities as a rebuilding team it limits your options. And the Braves are limiting their options for no good reason other than what Enscheff said ... somebody has made enough poor decisions that more poor decisions are needed to save their asses.
