Longenhagen said today that he'd say Hunter Bishop's most likely landing spot is currently Atlanta. He also said this about whether teams are concerned about his increasing strikeouts: "Somewhat, he's been beaten by breaking stuff beneath the zone a lot lately. That plus the previous two years of statistical struggle will make it tough for teams to buy in the way they have with Bleday."

If the answer to BPA ends up being a pitcher at 9, then so be it as long as the bust rate is accurately factored in.

Baseball America mock updated. Shea Langeliers at 9, Matthew Allan at 21. Their writeup at 9 makes it sound like they don't have a clue other than college bat. They have Bishop going 8 and admit he could easily be the guy at 9.

The Allan pick is interesting and points to what Kiley said yesterday about him having a high price tag. BA also said that we've watched Allan very closely this spring with all of our decision makers seeing him, including Anthopoulos.

Also found this video of a Hunter Bishop homer on Tuesday at Arizona: https://twitter.com/Pac12Network/sta...82151567003648. It was his second homer of the night. These videos of his home runs are a lot of fun to watch.

I looked into this Hunter Bishop fella. Not impressed. We are supposed to take him at 9 off 1 good year? I will root like hell for him if we draft him but I dont have high hopes for him. I generally prefer pure hitting prospects over sluggers.

That’s the rub with him, and is why some teams aren’t sold on him that high. His arm also barely plays at the MLB level.

I keep hoping something crazy happens and Bleday or Greene fall to 9

Hunter Bishop this weekend against Nebraska - 6-12 with a homer. Of the six outs he made, five came via strikeout.

With the info we have, I'd almost rather lean pitching. Then go college bat at 21 and 60.

Bishop is sounding a bit like Cody Johnson, with the exception that Bishop has taken college classes. Of course, it's ASU, so maybe he hasn't.

At 9, I'd like one of Abrams, Bleday, Greene, and Carroll in that order, though I do think Greene is less likely being that he's a prep.

wondering about maybe signing someone under slot at 9 (like Carroll) and using the $ to sign Allen to an overslot deal at 21

we can't draft anyone with signability (or injury risk) issues with the #9 because we lose that pick if we fail to sign that player...this also reduces our leverage with that pick...so we have an incentive to go after a position player at that spot and also someone who we can have a deal in place with before the draft

Yeah I think I'd like us to take a similar approach that we did in '16. Try to get 3 good prospects at 9/21/60 if you can by undersigning at 9.

also with the 9 pick we have less leverage because we lose that pick if we fail to sign that player...so the incentive is to pick a position player (avoiding the risk of a situation like the one that cropped up with Stewart) and also someone who will agree to a deal ahead of the draft (which means probably someone that would otherwise be picked a few spots lower)

Allan is an obvious candidate for an overslot deal at 21.

But I'm thinking we'll also talk to CJ Abrams. If he wants to play for the Braves (and he's a local kid) he could up his demands to other teams and end up sliding to us. If we could have an agreement in place with him, we could take him at either 9 or 21.

So maybe Abrams plan A at #9 and someone like Carroll plan B (with Allen at 21 as part of plan B).

Carroll is the most intriguing projected first-round guy to me. Great skills and probably a pretty high floor for a high school guy. I just wonder if he's a mid-ceiling guy given his size. Of course, given his age, he could easily develop more fully. If he's there at #9, I would be fine with choosing him. Abrams would be an absolute gift.

The only way we get Abrams is if he really wants to sign for the Braves and is willing to work with us to game the system. I have heard Wright did something like that a couple years ago.

is size really a detriment anymore? with all the success of "little" guys we've seen?
