    Our Corner OF Problem

A good article breaking down the issue and the money owed

    http://blog.walkoffwalk.net/2017/08/....html?spref=fb

Now, I pose to the board, is there any way out of this? Creative ways to get out of the contracts? Would you be willing to send a prospect to a team if they took Kemp?

The problem here is OF is the most obvious and easiest spot to improve, and yet' we're stuck

Author seems VERY critical of Kemp with Zero credit given for what he did for an anemic offense that had no protection for Freeman and had him so Fustrated that he was swinging at everything! The Offense took off and the Braves played a lot better down the stretch last season....The Braves put butts in the seats because of it. Kemps not a bust by any means and the Braves could have never seen Ocuna ripping thru the Minors like he has.........One of the corners will be dealt for the Ocuna who we ALL want to see anyway!!!!"

Oh brother. I can't stand casual cluelessness.

After a few weeks in AAA next year to ensure an extra year of contractual control (a consideration which I'm sure our front office would never consider let alone actually act upon) Acuna should come up and take care of half the problem.

I think pre-hamstring injury Kemp was doing all right this year. He needs to be rested more and used more carefully. If the manager can do that I can live with an outfield of Acuna, Inciarte and Kemp.

Those who have declared WAR insist that it's a myth that Kemp offered lineup protection to Freeman. The fact that Kemp did, in fact, offer this type of protection was brought up by yours truly over a year ago. Those comments were typically ignored by the board. It was much more important to post that Vizcaino and Inciarte should be traded.

to elucidate upon the literary reference

Hamlet then turns to his mother and asks her, "Madam, how like you this play?", to which she replies "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Gertrude (who seems to at least suspect that the queen in the play is a stand-in for her) is saying that the Player Queen is being too effusive.

I guess the Braves could platoon the two geezers in LF (Kemp/Markakis) and hope to get replacement level from the position. Combine that with above average Inciarte and hopefully above average Acuna and it might be a tolerable OF for a year.

Braves really need to find a bad contact to swap Kemp for. My vote would be Kemp to Detroit for Zimmerman. Yeah, Zimmerman is owed more money in total and years but he's more likely to be useful and the Braves usually throw $10-$15M at a veteran SP every year anyway.

Kemp is a useful player...but he needs to be rested some and also substituted out in certain situations...Acuna, Inciarte, Kemp would be an above average outfield and the range of the first two can cover for some of Kemp's shortcomings

Royals, I think they are the obvious fit to move Kemp. They tried desperately to move Ian Kennedy at last year's deadline to no avail. He ended up rebounding and having a nice season for them. But he's again having middling results this year. Seems like a deal that benefits both sides.

The Braves open up a spot for Acuna and add a veteran SP who could benefit from a move to the NL. The Royals add some nice RH power to replace the loss of what looks to be multiple key offensive pieces and they save some cash in the long run

I've yet to come up with the team for whom taking Kemp would make sense. Surely doesn't make sense for anything Detroit would be looking to do.

The braves got some offensive credibility with its fans and cleared significant amount of 2020 payroll by trading for Kemp. Everything else is negative. This was not hard to see when they made the deal.

I still don't quite understand the consternation over markakis. Signing him simply hasn't mattered. Every complaint about him starts with the idea that braves weren't going to compete during his tenure.

A healthy Kemp could still serve an AL team well as a DH. But he needs to be on the DL for a while.
