Yeah, there's no telling what they've had Allard working on this year or how that has affected his K rate. If the way the Braves are promoting guys has taught us anything it's that they're going off of guys making the improvements they need and developing more than stats. Allard's stuff is too good not to strike a good number out.

I don't think I've read any reports that Allard wasn't throwing a curve ball, which would seem like a pretty noteworthy thing to write about a prospect and his best pitch.

I don't think they'd want that to be public knowledge for opposing batters until after the work has really ceased do you?

I feel like scouts and fans and people that follow prospects would probably have noticed if Allard had stopped throwing curve balls and it likely would have made it way into the public consciousness by now.

    Maybe not.

Here's a recap from early May on TC that shows he was using his curve then: https://www.talkingchop.com/2017/5/5...d-kolby-allard

He also struck out 11 in that game. Regardless, we can't just assume he wasn't using his curve because he wasn't striking out as many. But the last 2 starts are great to see either way.

I say don't and wait until two weeks into next year. There's really no reason to bring him up now. But as a fan, sure, I can't wait to see him in Atlanta.

It wouldn't hurt his service time to bring him up September 1st, but if he plays well I'm sure the front office will want him in the lineup for Opening Day 2018. Throwing the fans a bone in the lost year isn't worth losing a year of Acuņa's prime.

My mistake. It doesn't count for days of service in terms of rookie eligibility, but apparently does for service time towards arbitration.

I asked this question on the board earlier in the year and was given a different answer. Google >>> Chop Country I guess.

it actually doesn't. I mean, it has a small affect, but he doesn't gain service time the same as prior to Sept 1st, if he is just getting called up for the first time. He would be on the 40 man roster though, and that is a bigger issue going into off season.

Haha yes. Service time is accumulated all year, every day you're on the active roster. Rookie time is only accumulated if you're on the 25-man roster or actually getting AB.

So if a player is called up Sept. 1 and is not on the 25-man roster, he doesn't lose any time for rookie consideration while he rides the bench. But his games played and ABs do count. For prospects, any day on the active MLB roster is a day of service time, no matter when it occurs.

there is a off shoot rule for first time call ups on Sept 1. I will see if I can find it.

yeah, I can't find what I read. so maybe I am wrong. I know I read something like : 'a player being called up after Aug 31st accrues a small amount of service time for that month, but it doesn't start his clock. '

however, since I can't find that again, I will assume it was a garbage or dated read.
