1 year deal per Rosenthal
1 year deal per Rosenthal
For that cheap, why not. He sucks but hey, it's cheap
Not a big move or exciting move... but I like it. Good low risk move for a guy who could be a great utility player with some upside.
Not a bad utility player at all. Gives some insurance in the infield. Not a flashy move but not a bad one.
Don't personally see the logic behind this one. With Garcia the presumed starter at 3B, Peterson the presumed starter at 2B, and both Castro and Ciriaco under control who also provide the flexibility to play SS (not to mention being better hitters), this one's a bit of a head-scratcher to me. Likely means Ciriaco is non-tendered to make room on the roster for a less-flexible player.
I could understand giving him a minor league deal with a camp invite and chance to earn a roster spot, but I wouldn't have guaranteed him any money personally.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
In before the he can be flipped for a top prospect thread.
I can hardly wait to see Posh Spice in the stands!
Don't get this one. How does this guy get a major league deal in the first week of Dec? Should have done better, IMO.
actually surprised that someone hasn't mentioned UGA yet

Makes little sense. Why sign him to platoon with Peterson (I assume he won't play much 3B since both he and Garcia are RHed) when Castro is pretty much the same mediocre player?
Good thing they took a lesser return for Kimbrel to unload BJs contract...otherwise signings like this wouldn't be possible!
I non-tender Ciriaco in a heartbeat. Nice story and all. Had a couple of big plays. But his upside is next to nil. I think Castro sticks with the big club next season. In the event they want Castro to play every day at Gwinnett, there will be a flock of Ciriaco types available as rosters are trimmed at the end of spring training. I don't understand Beckham getting a major league contract, but that's another matter. He's a better player than Ciriaco.
so is there a need for KJ now?
I guess we could sign him and trade FF.. huh.. huh..
Beckham is a small improvement over Ciriaco.
Our bench looks like this right now:
Bethancourt (R)
Swisher (S)
Eury Perez (R)
Beckham (R)
Other
I think we have need for another lefty bat (or switch hitter) on the bench. Kelly Johnson would be perfect.
Castro might start the season in AAA but he is our real backup shortstop. If Aybar got hurt and someone had to play short for an extended period, it would be Castro.
I'm not sure about this one either. The only thing I can think of is that we're looking at his .229 BABIP from last year as opposed to his .273 career average and are thinking that will even out this year. For the big Fangraphs fans, does Kiley McDaniel harp on BABIP?
I think Kelly Johnson still fits and fits quite well. I wonder if they don't try to find an upgrade for Eury Perez at the end of spring training.
