I'm not someone who advocates the second time around approach, but Locke, Feliz, and Coleman (who the Braves drafted out of high school, but did not sign) are all worth a look. Don't know what has happened to Jacob Turner, but he might be worth a look (although the signing of Norris would make Turner superfluous). Felix Doubront is another pitcher I'd consider. As far as hitters go, I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Will Middlebrooks as well (although the Beckham signing would seem to fill the role Middlebrooks might play).

I really have to laugh when I see Revere on the list. We sign Melvin Upton, Jr., to an outrageous contract when we could have had either Span or Revere for a decent minor league pitching prospect. Revere isn't all that great, but he would have given us a lot more payroll flexibility than we had.

Don't be surprised to hear that we might be poking around on Greg Holland tomorrow. Just got off the phone with a mutual friend who spoke to him over Thanksgiving who said the reports that it doesn't look like he's going to work anything out with the Royals before tonight's deadline are true.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Nope. As I read it, clvclv is clearly speculating. He made a guess and explained why with sourced backup. No ARE going to make a play. Might poke. That’s about as big a disclaimer as you can find. Did I miss something?

What's Mejia's suspension status? He's been quite good when he's pitched.

he will be a hard one to pick up. he is gone until the end of July and he is one strike away from lifetime ban.

isn't there a three strikes your out rule??

That is a long time. You might approach him in the same way you would a guy coming back from Tommy John surgery- try and get him on a one-year deal with a team-friendly option for a second year.

Holland on a 2 year deal wouldn't be bad depending on price. If won't pitch next year but could be huge going into the new stadium. Seems like the kind of deals we need to make.

As for my speculation about Greg (and pure speculation on my part as I wouldn't openly proclaim something I might know to be true that could possibly hurt any leverage he might have) - he MIGHT be willing to take a little less from the Braves regardless of any guidance Borass might provide. He's currently back in KC doing his rehab work because those are the medical people he's dealt with his whole career and he trusts them. Within the last year he had a baby and finished his permanent residence in Asheville, will always maintain his offseason residence in this area because he's an avid hunter, and Asheville has become one of the largest (and well-respected) medical/rehab areas in relatively close proximity to Atlanta (3-ish hour drive). He's been researching the doctors in the area extensively.

Do I KNOW he'd be willing to take substantially less from the Braves to continue his rehab? Not that he's acknowledged publicly. What I do know is that he quietly offered to sign a below-market extension with the Royals several times since he likes it there and they don't have the financial flexibility many contenders do without either side discussing it publicly. Greg hired Borass because his former representatives hadn't landed him any endorsement deals to provide other sources income from something other than his salary - not because he was interested in milking every dime he was worth on the market from the Royals.

Henderson Alvarez was non-tendered.. i know he has some shoulder issues, but if he recovers, could be a nice addition when healthy.

The Astros non tendered Chris carter their first baseman from last year. I wonder if they plan to give the job to AJ Reed out of spring training or if they plan to make a play for someone to play first base *cough* Freeman *cough*

    Cough, cough.. AJ reed.. cough..

I don't see them cutting a 1b in HOPES of a trade.. this looks like a clear message from the organization, saying.. the job is yours man.. show us what you can do..
