Signed McCann to a one-year bargain deal because Suzuki wanted a multi-year contract.
Struck while the iron was hot on Donaldson for $24 million because he knows he's healthy and a healthy Donaldson for a full season is a great pickup. Waiting would have not allowed them to get him cheaper; they would have missed.
They insisted Markakis come down on his demand and got a Gold Glove/All-Star for $4 million with a $2 million buyout for 2020.
He has said the focus moving forward is on trades.
The only bull**** I see is in your post. So since you're into juvie name-calling, call me some names, too. Show the board what you're made of.
Come on dude... The only reason McCann would make sense is if we had a successor pushing in the minors... and we don't. Why not roll with Zuk and Flowers? If you add them up they were almost JT last season.

Donaldson may be healthy, we have no idea. His chronic, multi-season, calf injuries scare the hell out of me frankly. If you think Nick is a GG/AS caliber player, I really don't know what to tell you. He's been one of the worst starters in the majors over his ATL career if you remove last years 1st half. Even with it he only avg 1.4 fWAR / season. Now he's even older.

    Grow up.

    Grow up, dude.

McCann was bad in 2018 and Suzuki was pretty decent.

However they were pretty much the same offensive profile in the preceding three seasons and McCann's 2018 was injury plagued. McCann is a much better framer and maybe slightly better defensively. He also fits platoon situation a bit better.

With McCann requiring no real salary and no commitment, it's a reasonable alternative to committing 5 and 6m to Suzuki. Given Suzuki significantly regressed in 2018, I am happier with McCann.

McCann might be toast or he might be a guy who has another year left in him with health. Cheap to find out and the Braves can make moves later if not. He doesn't prevent them from doing anything.

Similarly, the Braves have made no real commitment to Markakis and can still make moves to shore up the OF if they like. Now or up and unto the deadline.

Basically saying the reds have three guys the fish would want and reds don’t want to trade those three guys. Very informative

3:03pm: Third base prospect Jonathan India, whom the Reds selected with the No. 5 overall pick in this past summer’s draft, is also of interest to the Marlins, Heyman tweets. The former Florida Gators star hit a combined .240/.380/.433 in 184 plate appearances this past season in his pro debut — though he struggled in the Class-A Midwest League a bit after tearing through the Rookie-level Appalachian League with a .995 OPS in 14 games (the type of production one would expect from a fairly polished college bat in Rookie ball).

I certainly don't agree with the Reds decision to go for it this year, but in the era where half the teams are intentionally tanking, it's refreshing to see a team actually trying to win.

India is a decent step down from Riley in terms of value, and Greene is more potential than results (compared to Anderson), but if the Reds are willing to include Senzel or Trammel they win the JTR sweepstakes and there isn't anything the Braves can do about it.

When they crash and burn, we might can get some pieces at the deadline from them

Yes. But, honestly they don't look that bad right now.

Somebody in the Central is going to be selling nifty pieces. Most likely the Reds and Pirates.

3:59pm: MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro tweets that there are “substantive” talks ongoing between Cincinnati and Miami, adding that India is indeed a player being discussed as part of the return.

The Marlins, though, are still talking with the Dodgers and Padres, at the very least, and are seeking the best package of two to four players they can obtain.

This report of a new suitor every week feels like a ploy to increase leverage. Makes me feel like the Marlins are trying to create the feel of high demand in order to get someone, maybe the Braves, to panic and up their offer.

Hope the reds get him and Jeter shows again how stupid he is by taking India as a headliner.

I am holding my breath. Just walk away from Realmuto. He's not worth the prospect capital. The last time the Braves had a thing for a player like this the Dodgers fleeced us, the time before that it was Texas, and the time before that it was the Cardinals. The last time we made a deal like this that we didn't ultimately regret it was McGriff in '93. So we added Mac (retirement tour), Nick (should have moved on), and Donaldson (injury history gamble) for $31M you telling me we could not have had Harper or Manny for that and then traded them in the back half of the deal? Think SuperGM has screwed up so far.

    Exactly this!

I think AA has a fair but somewhat underwhelming offer on the table that the Marlins can’t beat. I kind of wonder if AA has lowered the offer based on weaker than expected offer for JTR.
