you lack empathy if somehow you are "caught in the moment" of listening to tell people horrific stories about what happened to them and need a note remind you to show that you care or hear them

Well let's see. I don't think you ever addressed my point about the data that shows the U.S. has a much higher gun ownership rate and gun homicide rate than other comparable developed countries.

What's your thoughts on the data that shows states with higher ownership rates have much higher homicide rates?

How about findings that gun in homes are much more likely to be used in assaults, homicides, suicides or accidental shootings than for self-defense?

Is assembling a collection of military-style weapons necessary to fend off a home invasion?

Teachers are criminally underpaid and overworked and do NOT have the time for that kind of training. A lot more goes into using a weapon than simply knowing how to aim and shoot. Teachers need and hope to connect with their students, not lord over them with a dominating threat of violence. I think it would only attract more hostility and violence.

Even suggesting such a thing displays a shocking level of ignorance.
For starters this is not all teachers. It's a collection of teachers /administrators /school staff that are comfortable and capable. Secondly your grossly over generalization about what type of people teachers are is what is ignorant here. Teachers are like everyone. A collection of unique individuals and I know that as I have many who are close to me.

Finally, response times from local law enfor cement make this a no brainer decision. Don't project your dispostion on guns to the rest of the population.

Having more guns on the school grounds will only lead to accidents and theft and still does not begin to address the root cause, which I don't think is simply lax gun laws.

The large amount of Democrats and "conservatives" (I say that with a sneer) in Congress who still voted to renew the Patriot Act recently, despite the seeming hatred many of them have for the current President, underscores this.

Well, then we need to start letting the students have them, too. They can't rely on the teachers for their own protection.

Did he actually put his eye out? I don't remember.

Not that I expect students to be able to take care of themselves in a situation like this, but don't day cares have codes and remote door access for entry? Should schools be able to do this as well?

At my son's daycare, there is single access point. They give us a key fob to scan in. Most of the schools I know of in Georgia, visitors can only come in the front and have to be buzzed in by the front office. Think I heard a person from Georgia tell Trump this yesterday.

    It's a start, anyway.

Oh I think I have but I'll do it again (that is a trend on this board.. I answer questions directed at me, but rarely get answers to questions I ask)

    1. I think that makes sense. I noticed you're careful to say "gun homicides" and not just "homicides." I posted this two pages ago, but not a soul responded to it

    2. I haven't seen that data. Would like to look at it. Can you share?

    3. That doesn't matter to me. I will use it for self-defense only (and fun for shooting on the weekends). Don't take away my right to protect myself because someone else is a criminal
