I used to kind of feel that way because he was such a complex, compelling character who wanted to reform the trade. But then I go back to the awful things he did out of paranoia.

    Omar's first BF, Wallace, DeAngelo...

That whole turn's particularly dark and venomous.

Random facts from the show. Lt. Mello, who was Colvin's right-hand man, is the real-life Jay Landsman.

And Avon Barksdale is based partially off the man who plays the deacon.

Also: Prop Joe was a dialect coach for the show, if I remember correctly.

And the guy that played Detective Cole who died of a heart attack (on a ****ing stairmaster) was a producer of the show who died as well.

Man, that show was just perfect.

I really like seasons 3 & 4. I think those two are by far the best seasons.

Irony is that Stringer has one of the more genuine sounding hood accents in the show, and Elba is British. Since I never saw the Wire previously, my first exposure to him was Pacific Rim I think. Then some of the more recent stuff he's done.

I relate to Stringer's character somewhat. The way he changes his way of speaking to regular civilians and politicians, and the way he talks to Avon and crew. I spoke with urban ebonics all the time up until the age of 12 when I told myself I could never get a serious job if I didn't start talking more professionally. Now it's like an on-off switch. When I'm around some of the guys I grew up with in school and the neighborhood the old slang comes out, but in general public and for everything else it's my proper dialect.

Also just found out Elba is an Arsenal fan. Like him even more now.

Me, too. I really did. Even after D'Angelo, Wallace, etc., even after knowing that he was a pretty callous user of people, I was still rooting for him to get over somehow.

I was rooting for Stringer to break away from Avon's crew and have them be rivals. But that would have been too unrealistic. Everyone on here is saying Season 4 is the best or second best, man... I am almost there.

Also, I think the reason people were rooting for Stringer is because I think most people saw that Stringer was smarter of a business man and at times more humble and caring than Avon. Then you see that Stringer is basically Avon's bitch when he's not in prison. When Avon gets locked up, you see a different side of Stringer because now this time he's in charge and running the show without having to run stuff by Avon (he still does run it by Avon in jail for posturing). You see he starts focusing on more legitimate businesses, and is really only doing the drug thing to keep Avon happy.

He's still loyal to Avon, even though he disagrees with a lot of Avon's ideals. You see how much he cares about Avon even though he sees Avon's self-destructive behavior. Not saying he's some selfless saint, but he was much more levelheaded to where people could relate.

The sit down meeting of all the drug lords in the wire reminded me of the Godfather where Vito called a meeting of all the heads of the five families after Sonny was massacred

I wonder if that does go on where rival leaders meet up like that to discuss business.

I can't really call it between 1 and 4, although Avon isn't in 4 at all, Stringer is dead and a couple of other characters get pushed to the back burner. But the last few episodes of 4 are just so incredible.

Prop Joe is the best. There isn't a close second either.

Nooooooo. NOT PROP JOEEEEE. Why Prop Joe?!?! Such a civil businessman in a cruel and wild wild west.

Someone here give me hope and tell me Omar is going to slice and dice Marlo before the show ends.

Have to admit that season 5 is a bit underwhelming for me.

I mean McNulty's Mission is insane. Freamon is losing it.

The bright spots of this season have been:
    Clay Davis
    Omar's Crusade
Marlo knocking off Prop Joe and the Co-Op.
    Moreland's Detective Work.

The budget crisis doesn't interest me. The McNulty fabricating everything storyline is making me cringe. I also hate continuing that its coming at the expense of degrading Freamon's character. Carcetti's crusade for the governorship and the politics with it doesn't interest me. It's just rehashing his campaign politics but with bigger fish.

The newspaper politics have been good. But it's being brought down because of this stupid McNulty thing.

Still have 3 more episodes to go.

But right now I'd rank the seasons as:
    S1 (introducing the world)
S2 (my dad was a union guy for 28 years)
    S4 (Kids)
S3 (Campaign Politics and Stringer Bell)
    S5

    I actually could flip 3 and 4.
