This looks like an idea that is purely revenue driven.
I can’t remember the exact numbers but average home game revenue for the Braves is in the 3.5 to 4 million range and playoff games are even higher per game.

I think a 150 game season would be perfect but I don’t see owners taking a 20 to 30 million dollar revenue cut. The other issue with shorting a season is every mlb player would have to take a pay cut. The union would not allow that. .

That's awesome, and I agree with him. You want the ultimate bulletin board material? Let the other team choose you as an opponent.

Cut the season by 25% and start the playoffs in September (World Series in October) and I could get on board.

But I am also wondering if baseball is again wasting time trying to cater to type of person that will never be interested in baseball, while ignoring what makes the current fan interest in baseball.

I get a kick out of "fans" arguing for fewer games. Yay, less baseball! Moron.

I want to know how baseball plans to "grow the game" by eliminating 42 teams in smaller markets.

Good damn question. Eliminating MiLB teams reduces the number of kids who will/can make it to the MLB. Possibly no Trouts,Acunas or Albies. What a shame!!

Not the idea I was proposing, Bob.

Tell me how you are playing 162 games with a half the league in the playoffs.

Which is why this **** won’t happen - this is sillier than trading Salty and Elvis and the whole farm for a song about Mark T.

That makes to much sense. Baseball loses a lot of fans and even more media coverage once football season starts.

The idea of reducing the large sample size, which actually has meaning, to greatly increase the crapshootiness of the crapshoot isw a terrible idea.

I prefer to think of that as a multiteam trade for Casey Kotchman.

Actually, we traded an entire farm system and Mike Trout for Mike Gonzalez.

First, we traded LaRoche and Lillibridge for Gonzalez.

Then, once it was abundantly clear Thorman was a failure, we traded Salty, Feliz, Harrison, and Andrus for Teixeira.

Then a year later we traded Teixeira for Kochman.

The Angels let Teixeira go via free agency, and got Trout with the Yankees pick they received for losing him.

And finally, we traded Kotchman to Boston for LaRoche.

So all of that was an elaborate three year long plan to end up with LaRoche still at first and Mike Gonzalez as our closer.

A "second season" format with round robin play among contenders has been my ideal scenario for a while. Eliminate divisions, cut the regular season to 143 games (7 games v. intraleague, 3 v. interleague), Take the top 6, reset the standings and play a 20 game RR from roughly Labor Day to the beginning of October. Top 2 advance to the LCS. Break any ties with one-game playoffs.

You still end up with a 163 game season for the top 6 and it gives the fans meaningful baseball down the stretch. Also eliminates tanking teams.

All those teams that don't make the playoffs will never give up four or more game day revenues.

I'd be on board with making the first round best of seven and the wild card two of three. In the WC, teams would have to play day/night DH after one game in other city.
