This is one of the best outcomes we could have wished for under the circumstances. If I'm AA Billy Ryan is in my office all day getting me, Minasian, and Fisher up to speed.

I like it. Built a very good team and farm before feeling the pressure to go for it all. Came very close to the pinnacle as well. And the Blue Jays still have a pretty solid team even after those trades.

I'm pumped for a new era of braves baseball. Its obvious that the sabremetric movement won out. Doesn't mean old fashion scouting is not useful but its about time that we caught up to where the rest of the teams in the league are right now in terms of data analytics.

Again - We just need to keep the lifeblood of our scouting staff. We have made so many good trades/draft picks the last 3 years that I don't want to upset that apple card too much.

Hopefully he learned a lot in his time with the Dodgers.

This seems pretty good, all in all. Cherington was my first choice among the rumored candidates, but AA was a worthy second.

Plus, bonus points for watching Shanks go through the stages of grief on twitter.

Ok, we have a new direction. I wonder if we are going to see some cashing in of prospects now.

That would have happened regardless of who was in charge. But I hope we are very selective in trading the prospects. The obvious positional needs are left and third. I don't think we need to make a big splash at either position. But some reinforcement would be smart. I am also skeptical of starting the season with Fried and/or Sims in the rotation. A veteran starting pitching is needed. AA's old team the Dodgers have a bit of a surplus. I'm check with them on McCarthy or Ryu.

A couple reasons. First, he's described as a Coppy clone. I think the last thing the Braves need is another Coppy, even if AA isn't going to break rules like Coppy. I wanted a change from Coppy and instead we got another guy cut from the same cloth.

Second, AA has an unhealthy fascination with acquiring expensive players past their prime. He traded Thor for Dickey, he acquired Jose Reyes and Josh Johnson from the Marlins in the same trade when both were past their prime, and then he trades Reyes for Tulowitzki who immediately goes into sharp decline.

We aren't a team that can afford to be saddled with expensive, under producing, veterans with long contracts.

I don't like this at all.

I'm not ready to cash in on prospects only because I'm not sure what our real long term needs are at this point. Maybe 3rd isn't a hole. Maybe we don't need any starting pitching. Its still too early for my liking.

I love this move. AA would have been my first choice. I was really impressed by the way he developed Toronto into a contender even if he didnt get ideal results. Its tough being in the division with MLB golden boys the Yankees and Red sox. Core players like Bautista and Encarnation were found off the scrap heap. I wasnt fond of a lot of the moves he made toward the end but I like that he recognized his window to compete and went for broke. I also like that he was smart enough to leave before smart enough to quit at the right time. I like that he worked for the Dodgers and that they wanted him to begin with. I wouldnt call them the smartest team in the majors but they are close.
