Still ignores the main point - Folty's still got a LONG way to go. The brass didn't bring 3 other veteran starters in because they were convinced he's going to take that next step forward and become a #2 or #3 this season. Only 10 of his 22 starts lasted 6+ innings, meaning that counting on him could easily shred your pen.

Again, I'm just as hopeful as everyone else - I just think it's awfully early to decide he's much more of a "lock" to become a long-term rotation piece than Wisler or Blair just yet. All 3 have shown flashes at different points, but none of them have sustained anything thus far - including Folty.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

BringING in those starters had to do more with wisler/Blair than Folty.

Yeah, not sure how the Braves having two defined starters roles and bringing in three veterans is a bad sign for the second defined starter. Pretty clearly Folty made progress and the others did not.

What? Wisler flashed decent results and reverted back to being bad for almost a whole year. Folty started rough and then pretty much flashed the whole rest of the season. Folty has made adjustments with results. Wisler has done the opposite. Not to mention when Folty has flashed, his peripherals have actually lined up with his good performance. When Wisler has been decent, his peripherals haven't line up. It's really not even close man.

The veterans were brought in to flip for prospects. It's that simple.

Maybe Garcia. I can't see the other two being worth much to a contending team at the deadline. Dickey is simply an innings eater and Colon is simply an eater.

We got a decent prospect for Lucas Harrell and Dario Alvarez last year - both guys signed off the scrap heap during the season.

neither guy is over 40 either. To get anything of value for Colon or Dickey, we would need a very hot start, early/mid June trade, and salary eating by Braves.

Neither is as good as Colon or Dickey either. And it's not like Harrell has upside.

No one is suggesting we'll get Benintendi or Bregman for those guys, but if they stay healthy and perform normally someone will give up a marginal prospect or two. Somebody will lose a pitcher to injury and overpay slightly.

There is usually a team like the Rangers last year who's rotation is in shambles and just need somebody to be OK in the rotation for awhile. Colon and Dickey could fill that role.

It really isn't close but apparently clvclv has something against Folty. He has things to work on for sure but did make improvements last year which can't be said of Wisler.

I wasn't saying you thought we could score a top prospect. We all know that. I just think Colon and Dickey will have a very limited market and if we plan on trading them, then we need to strike at first opportunity.

I agree. We don't want to get Grilli'd again.

My biggest fear about this season is that we'll be just good enough to build false hope, and as a result we'll hold on to players like those two a little bit too long.

I'm hoping for big things from Newcomb this year. If he can cut the walks just a little the impact will be huge. There isn't a harder to hit arm in our system.

If he cuts the walks he's a legitimate 2 maybe even better. Even with the walks he's a 3 or 4.

Yep. Without sharpening his command much he's another Gio Gonzalez. If he does sharpen his command, he's another Jon Lester.

Gio is an interesting comp. Never saw anyone compare the two before, but I can see the similarities...both high K, high BB LHers that struggled with control at similar ages/levels.

Blair gives up a lead off homer and struggles but gets out of it. Albies with a hit in his first ab and then gets driven home by a hard extra base hit by Camargo

Ozzie just barrels the ball. Can't wait to see him in ATL this year.

Didder is in the lineup today, too.
