    freddie freeman contract extension?

what would be the terms of a Freddie freeman contract extension, and how would it effect the braves future payroll and payroll flexibility?

that ship has sailed. shame, as they could've gotten maybe Willie Calhoun and Nomar Mazara. Or maybe a combo like Hunter Harvey and Dylan Bundy. How good would a Stephen Piscotty/Alex Reyes combo look on this team right now?
    huge mistake by the FO.

I am kinda curious what AA does with FF, but i guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Freeman probably has a few more good years left but they can't extend him past is mid 30's.

Most I'd be willing to do is no more than 3 years and around 90ish million to his current deal. May be tack on some option years.

Way too much. I’d see if he would take 1 year deals at the end of the contract. Otherwise let him walk. He’ll get a huge deal from the Angels that we won’t match.

He won't unless he takes a series of 1 year deals, does lots of options, or goes way below market. AA is too smart to extend a 1B well into his 30's at the going rate.

Good thing you didn't run the Braves during the run. The Big three wouldn't have had a decade together or Chipper a lifer but have mercy the prospects...

We also were the #1 payroll then. We're mid-market payroll now.

Exactly. And Freeman isn’t the player Chipper was. Freeman is great, but he’s a 1B which just isn’t as valuable as a 3B. Freeman is replaceable and there are usually a lot of options available on the FA market each offseason.

I think the end of Chipper's career was well past the #1 payroll days also.

It's also arguable that keeping around to miss 50 games a year wasn't necessarily the optimal move for the franchise.

I know I don't give him enough credit for his greatness but he missed so many games and ultimately the Braves never really felt like contenders with him at the end.

The Big 3 and Chipper aren't 1B. That position historically ages horribly. It's happened to the best 3 inner circle hitting 1B of the last 30 years. What makes Freeman so special?

Chipper also didn't sign a market value contract into his late 30's either. It was short extensions that he renegotiated a couple of times.
