Serious question - why is POTUS considered a black guy?
Also what's the deal with this latest republican trend of painting Obama as not black? I'm genuinely confused as to the direction of this tactic?

Zito, is Obama black or mixed?
2 black parents would make one black but having one black parent and one parent of another race would make him mixed. So why do you say he's black?
He's black because racists in this country have used the n-word to describe him plenty.

All I know about Obama's skin tone is that he has benefited from it in more ways than any President in US history.

People of African ancestry in these United States—partial or total—aren't the ones who invented the one-drop rule; yet now privileged whites are criticizing them for identifying as such. There's a cognitive dissonance there that I want to say is white people jumping their shark.

Jason Heyward isn't really white either. He doesn't love baseball.
The only thing dissonant about this thread are the levels of white man's burden.
First, I'm not calling him anything. Sav called him a black guy.
Second, who ever said that he self-identified as a "black guy," thank you. If that is the case, fine. It is most certainly his choice.
Third, I'm not criticizing, I'm asking. It was a serious question and not one bred out of me being a closet racist or something.
Fourth, another serious question, why do some people not want to identify as being of mixed race (or use another term if you'd like)? Is there some shame to the idea still? Or do you think it is a measure of shame for the race they drop? Or mainly pride for the one they identify with?
Fifth, never even heard of the "one-drop rule."
Just seeking to better understand. Wish folks around here wouldn't automatically start a food fight.
