He did get a high pitch at 92 called for a strike that inning.

You're right. If that pitch was a strike, then the one before it was too. I think both were balls, but they're as close to the top as Nola's getting east-west.

Phillies' dumb mistake means they can't clear the pitcher. Nola becomes an easy first out.

Just like Newk didn’t get the call on every pitch that missed up, Nola isn’t getting the call in every pitch that misses off the plate. Folks here just complain about Nola’s calls and don’t mention Newks calls.

We can check the ball/strike scatter tomorrow, and like always, it probably won’t reveal any ump bias.

Consistently gets ahead of guys, but then throws easy takes until the count is full. It’s maddening

Calm down... I didn't say ump was biased. Hell, tv even said stats show ump likes wide strikes more than up/down

Newk is flashing the change now. When he commands that pitch and is throwing strikes I can see why it’s easy to dream on him.

It all gets set up by his fastball. The change is a “show me” pitch. The curve isn’t effective if guys don’t respect his fastball. Gotta command the fastball.
