ah so "back in Rome" is a metaphor here

that's ok, I think of Dayton up Ynoa down as a metaphor also

I mean, what isn’t metaphor, really—as Agamben paraphrases, “metaphor substitutes one thing for another, not so much in order to reach the second, as to escape from the first [... thus] the metaphoric substitute is originally a nominal replacement for an object that should not be named,” hence the analogy with the phenomenon of fetishism. And isn’t fetishism, in this way, conmensurable with the project of discourse, and thus the prospects for human living?

But Bacon’s also, like, literally going back to Rome, because he literally played there then literally didn’t now literally will again (unless his 2019 Rome stint mirrors his 2019 Danville tenure).

Someone asked awhile back whether there were roster limits in the minors and there are. My guess is they simply parked Bacon on the Danville roster until the second half started and a bunch of moves were made so he could be accommodated on a full-season team.

A more famous Bacon went only once to Rome; we’ll have to see if the Braves’ Bacon develops a pitching novum organum while in his second sojourn.

We just don't have much below AA right now, so there's no rush. I wonder if Logan Brown will be moving up to Florida in the meantime. He's having a decent season in Rome and they may not want to take ABs away from him. The combined OPS of the two guys catching for the Fire Frogs now is < 1.000. That doesn't tell the whole story if those two are good with handling young pitchers, but that's not much in the hitting department.

In another matter, I've been looking at the DSL boxes and I don't know if any of the guys playing there are true prospects, but we do have some guys who are performing markedly better than those on last year's squad. True, some are repeating the DSL, but a couple of the first-year guys are playing pretty well, particularly Quintero and Celedonio (who is hitting for power but striking out at an alarming rate).
I'm just scared of them moving Langeliers to Florida in late July and then jumping him to AA at the end of August to give him a taste there. I just get the feeling they think he could be ready at some point next season. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I'd let him play in Rome the rest of the year if his bat doesn't demand a promotion. If he's slaughtering low A pitching, I'd move him up to Florida in mid-August and let him end the year there. I'd then give him the whole first half in Florida before even thinking about moving him to AA.

I just don't want to rush his bat.

This wouldn't surprise me. His hit tool is legit. I think he's more than just a MIF though. I think the Braves give him every glove except a catcher's mitt and tells him to learn them all. I think he will. A jack of all trades but master of none.

Here is a question, what do we think Shewmake's ultimate upside is? I keep hearing super utility-type player. Does that mean we'd be happy if he turned into Kike Hernandez?

The more I think about it, the more the pick makes some amount of sense. AA is trying to copy the Dodgers in many ways and a versatile guy like Shoemake is exactly the type of guy the Dodgers like. Unfortunately the Dodgers are usually able to find those guys off the scrapheap while we invested a first round pick in one.

I think we'll probably try to fast track Braden so that he can help the big league bench as soon as possible.

Kike Hernandez is fine with me...but what's wrong with Matt Carpenter or Chase Utley

That’s such a weird comp. Young Nick Markakis was a dynamic player. If we drafted that guy then this pick is a slam dunk win.
