All I know is the Marlins recieved zero peices from the trade that could help them this year. The Braves could have given them two guys that could start this year and make a impact.

Why should the Marlins want pieces that will help them this year? Seriously, explain it to me. I've seen a bunch of people throw that around and I just don't understand why the Marlins would want to waste years of valuable pieces on a team that is obviously going to lose this year.

Edit: And I also should say, Jorge Alfaro is almost definitely going to start for them this year.

I guess you are right. I agree they shouldn’t be looking for that, but I was basically just going off what they had been asking for from other teams. Their asks were mainly for players ready or close to ready.

You're right. They should not attach any importance to having someone who can contribute in 2019. If the reports of it are true, it is a dumb and weird thing that they did. At the end of the day, they did get a strong return.

Outfielder Michael Brantley accepted Houston’s two-year, $32MM back in December, but the Braves came “very close” to matching the Astros’ offer, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. A month after losing out on Brantley, the Braves brought back the less exciting Nick Markakis on a one-year, $6MM deal to fill their vacancy in the corner outfield. For the second straight year, Markakis, Ender Inciarte and young superstar Ronald Acuna are in line to accrue the lion’s share of playing time among Braves outfielders

I think we're gonna throw some money at a starter. What's Dallas likely to get? I wouldn't mind getting him

I think AA is done. My wild speculation is that there's a bonus structure motivating AA and co to be cheaper and maximize profits.

If this were the case, wouldn't camargo be your starting 3b?

Last year the kemp and gausmen trades were minor but very important to the success of the team. If he continues to win with this strategy AA will soon be called a genius.

I think the mistakes AA had made this off-season is not finding a better OF player and not adding to the bullpen. Of course if he could pick up Marwin G on a reasonable contract or sign a good bullpen arm he could easily fix his off season mistakes.
Sorry, but this isn’t a winning strategy. Winning the East doesn’t mean ****.

Maybe Josh is kicking back a few mil to his boy AA for the solid.

I feel like Kimbrel is coming home.

Hope the contract is less than 12M AAV and only for max of 4 years.

Kimbrel for $12M sounds likely to anyone else?

    lol (from March 2018)

“There will be very few teams that have as much to spend in the marketplace next winter as the Atlanta Braves,” McGuirk said. “The opportunity to spend is there, but it’s going to be done judiciously and sequentially when (general manager Alex Anthopoulos) says it’s time. If we were to bring in a raft of veteran players and stick them in the position-player positions today, Alex would be blocked from bringing (young) guys along.

I would think no, but this is such a strange FA market. Spring training is starting, and there are a ton of FAs still out there. Kimbrel can shoot for $80M all he wants, but doesn't seem like he's even going to get half of that at this point. Anything under $15M AAV I'm all for. You may see some of these guys(not necessarily Craig) start to get desperate in the next week or two and sign short deals since they're running out of time to get ready for the season

If so, that would draw a lifetime ban like Coppy got. Totally unethical.

I was enthusiastic about AA being the GM at 1st, but the longer he serves, the more I loose faith in him as the GM the Braves need for moving forward and build a long term, highly competitive team capable of being in and winning the WS.

Also, I don't buy into anything Bowman says. His credibility is more than highly questionable. Has he broken any stories this year that have have come to being? I wouldn't even trust an article by him on where the best hot dogs can be found.

With the way free agency is going this year, again, it’s possible. Here we are, a week from pitchers and catchers reporting, and he along with Harper, Machado, and Keuchel are still unsigned. And we’ve heard nothing the past few weeks on Kimbrel. If after Wednesday and Kimbrel is not signed, it may be that type of deal he’ll have to settle for.

All I do know is that this is not a good thing for the game and could result in a work stoppage in the near future if this happens again next year.

    possible...though 14-15 is more likely

starting to make a certain amount of sense...i'd even do a 2-3 year deal at that AAV
