Nobody could have predicted the wheels would fall off for Shelby, that's what makes it so bad.

Well I wouldnt say that. Shelby has always been an up and down pitcher. The Cardinals were smart not to run him out there over and over to ruin his ERA. 2013 I dont think he even made their playoff rotation despite a 3.06 ERA and it wasnt because he was hurt or that the Cardinals were loaded with ace pitching. Shelby had a down second half and then moved on to a new team that plays in a severe hitters park. Greinke's ERA is double what it was last year too playing in that park. Pretty sure the DBacks are just an incompetent organization because their front office has said some bat **** crazy things in the last year. Personally my prediction was a 4.50 ERA for Miller.

Did the Dbacks change his delivery? I know he had some issues in Arizona that he never had in Atlanta with scraping his fingers on the mound upon pitch delivery.
    thank you weso1!

So you predicted regression? That's fine; I'm saying nobody could have predicted Shelby would become unusable and sent to AAA.

There was a report that he was feeling the pressure given the huge package theDBacks gave up for him. Maybe he can't handle it.

Shelby had an amazing fluke year last year that the peripherals didn't support... I fear the same could be true of Julio (though I don't think Julio would ever fall off like this)

I was never a fan of Miller, but I also do think he's anywhere near this bad.

And that's just one of many reasons you ship pitchers off when their value is highest.

Julio has been far more consistent over his career. He had 1 down year that wasnt even that bad. I think he was just working on things since everyone knew going into the season we were going to be a bad team. Well everyone except a few people here who take what the front office says as gospel.

I am not saying I predicted it. But there are others who did. Cardinal fans dont have a high opinion of him. Most of them were happy to have Heywood for a year plus a draft pick even after Heywood left. Its like saying no one could have predicted Heywood would suck at the plate for the Cubs. I always think he is going to have a breakout year but theres plenty of people who thought Heywood wasnt a good hitter.

His peripherals didn't support his strong year last year...but they also gave no indication that he would collapse this badly.

Teheran has been a 3+ WAR pitcher 3/4 years.

I'd love to have him back. But right now I'd trade Lipka for him.

His mechanics are not the same. Not sure who decided to do that or if he just lost it.

I still think we fleeced them. But Inciarte is batting like 75 points below last year, Blair has been sent down, and Swanson has not played. I still see Swanson as a solid player, not a star. So I think we crush the trade long term, but it's not like we got a guy that is making an impact on the big league level.

Shelby is not an example of a guy who outpitched his peripherals coming back down to reality. He's an example of a guy who just lost his mechanics and perhaps his head. There is no comparison between him and Julio at the moment.

Swanson will make that trade a hilarious fleecing on his own. Inciarte has been way worse than his career would suggest, and he's still been worth close to 1 WAR.
