Possibly...I get the feeling money and service time will not be the driving forces in these decisions.

I doubt it matters that much. Braves won't be able to extend everyone. Playing the service time game is smart and makes the most sense for mid market teams like the Braves. Not doing so is a disservice.

It should definitely be a consideration. I'm not sure it should always be the primary deciding factor, but if we don't care about it, then that's dumb.

Acuna has PAs 171 at Low-A. Sorry to be the one harshing your homer buzz, but let's inject some reality into the discussion.

High-A this season with a promotion at some point to AA. He will get a long look during ST next year, and probably a call up in Sept of 2018.

I would go ahead and pencil him in RF or LF to start the 2019 season.

I agree with this with the caveat that it could be late June or July of 18.

I think there's definitely a chance Acuna is up before September 2018. I don't think there's much of a chance he'll be up opening day next year, though.

The only way that happens is if he absolutely murders A+ for a couple months, then absolutely murders AA. Basically do what Heyward did.

Short of that, I don't think there's any chance.

I agree with those who have said Acuna shouldn't be up any earlier than sometime in '18 and more likely won't be a regular till '19.

Colon is looking...not good. Would have much preferred Robert in the organization over Dickey/Colon.

Ah well, Coppy's a genius so it will be OK.

September would be fine. That doesn't count towards his service time.

Just make sure he doesn't come up before then, and spends at least a couple of months in the minors to start next season. If he's even ready by then, which for a kid that young is a stretch.

I still think the Braves did Heyward a disservice by bringing him up so early, even though he was clearly able to play well at the big league level. Maybe he could have worked on developing his power with another year in the minors.

The year he spent in AAA really helped to turn Freeman into a polished hitter.

Colon's age could become an issue but we shouldn't make much of his spring numbers or Dickey's if going by track record. Colon has an ERA near 6 for his career in Spring Training while Dickey just concerns himself with getting ready and throws more fastballs in Spring Training than in real games, esp. vs division opponents. That said, which Robert are you talking about?

BTW 50, it seems Boyer is still under consideration because the Braves are all about velocity these days. Bowman has a new piece up about that here: http://m.braves.mlb.com/news/article...ewfound-speed/.

Well considering no one knew if Robert would post this period... but hey! Cool captain hindsight!

I think the hit to the face screwed Heyward up more than anything. He had 27 homers and a 200+ ISO at age 22. That's a good starting point. And he was at a 23 homer pace the following year in between his surgery and getting hit. After that nothing close to 20+ homer power.

I didn't see it but I heard old friend Jair Jurrjens has been topping out at 93-94 mph in the WBC. That caught me by surprise but if true I'd give him a minor league deal right now. If he can throw that hard again that's a good sign he might finally be healthy with that knee issue that did so much damage to his career. That said, I am guessing someone will sign him soon if that's true and since it would be such a low risk move I'd hope he comes home again.

I suppose y'all heard that the Braves grabbed lefty Kevin Chapman off waivers from Houston. I thought they might when I heard he was waived, he could be a decent LOOGY if used as such but I wouldn't trust him vs righties. I like that he hasn't given up any homers against lefties so that's good for a LOOGY.
