"I am the worst manager in baseball," Gonzalez said, "and I showed it tonight."
Wow. Okay. I have to give him props for that.

Something to consider.
Well that was a pleasant evening. We'll find out what the team is made of and more specifically what Minor is made of tomorrow. We've been answering the call all year, so I'm hopeful we can do it again. Then again, it's October, and we just got destroyed and struck out 15 times.
He's pulling a Bobby Cox and trying to take the blame. Maybe the team will take pity on him and play hard tomorrow.
Any way you look at it that miscue by Jason in the 2nd, throwing home with no chance of getting Puig, definitely comes down to coaching. If Jason knows he can't get Puig going 1st to 3rd on a groundball he has to know he can't get him at home on a sac fly either.
Youngest team in baseball?

It was only Game 1. So, why did it feel like Game 5?
Having Chipper throw out the first pitch to the ****ing mascot probably pissed off the baseball gods.
And anyway, wasn't Bobby supposed to throw out the first pitch?
If we had just lost a good, clean, well-pitched game 2-1 or 3-1, it would have sucked but not felt as gloomy. But no, this game had all the typical Atlanta Braves October baseball BS. Mind-numbingly dumb base running by Gattis, I still don't know where the hell Simmons was playing on Puig's first single, just all around crappy defense, and outside of a brilliant first inning, Medlen couldn't locate and couldn't put hitters away.
Plus, weird managerial decisions, but I'm not gonna attack Fredi. Our performance was pitiful, and no manager could have possibly saved it.
Edit: We also completely sucked hitting. Kershaw is tough, but we helped him out some before he really turned it on.

Tough game. I just got done watching it. Kershaw wasn't even on his "a" game until the 5th inning. He carved us up with a mediocre game. I did like the batters approach at the plate though. Patience is the key at the dish this series. If this game doesn't show you why this team needs a legit ace, then I don't know what will.
Scouting has become so good these days that we'll never been in any position to draft a real ace, only can trade for one.
Just looking at these playoff teams today:
Kershaw was a top 10 pick
David Price was a top 10 pick
Waino don't even get me started.
Verlander was a #2 overall pick.
Minor and Heyward were our highest draft picks in recent history.
We don't have the payroll flexibility to give 20+ million to a real ace (which is what this market commands, and would be 1/5th of our payroll), so we have to make due and develop guys like Medlen and Minor to be strong #2's or solid #1's but maybe not ace ace stuff. Teheran if he can learn control of the zone and possibly be more efficient with his innings could be an ace.
