point is, i don't think they're dead set on getting a "TOR" arm. and i don't think it will happen. seeing if you can get one in a steal is great and i hope they keep trying. could've worked out with Paxton. but again, that's more due diligence than truly chasing a TOR pitcher.
Gray could certainly have been painted as a TOR type of starter considering his history and he was being painted as such by several people on here and even some beat writers (certainly not me). You're just arguing semantics at this point.

What we do know is that they pursued Archer heavily last deadline (along with Gaus), and they continued to pursue other SP options into the off-season. It's all speculation, sure, but the sheer number of pitchers we've been attached to in trade rumors in less than a year certainly seem to suggest a clear direction.

ok man. you said trading for a TOR was inevitable due to who they went after (several of which were not TOR arms, easily including Gray, who the Braves FO certainly would not see as a TOR arm).
i said it was more due diligence on those guys than "inevitable" they trade for a TOR arm.
i'd happily bet that they don't trade for a TOR arm.

If the Braves make a trade, it will be for a BP arm.

Dont think they're trading for a "TOR" arm, not that i see one available right now.

I think Weigel and Ynoa will be up soon. That is a lot of nasty right there.

There's Dayton who was ok when he got his first cup of coffee at the ML level, and of course there's the chance we sign Kimbrel. Minter is gonna get brought back as well. Braves have so many arms.

Wasn’t it just last year(actually the last two), that we were praising the Nationals about all the trades they made for bullpen help?

    Worst bullpen ERA
    30. Nationals 6.89
    29. Baltimore 6.01
    28. Detroit 5.68
    27. Seattle 5.54
    26. Miami 5.03

They are now worse than they were. Bullpen help is is volatile. The Nationals have given up many prospects in the past few years, that have not helped long term.

Which is why I thought another move or two should have been made but the Braves best option may have been to keep things internal, as they have.

Bullpens typically trend year to year, which is why it's risky to invest a lot into them.

With how bad bullpens have been it just makes less sense why Kimbrel is still on the market unless he has a handshake deal with a team and is turning other teams away. I still say he’s ours after the draft.

I think so as well. Of course, my opinion isn't really important here, but it makes so much sense.

I've said it depends on the deal, 1 year deal then sign next winter. Or a multi year deal. Of course depends how much he wants.

We should know soon enough one way or another.

Doubt it. Would be very dumb of him to pass up good, guaranteed money b/c of a handshake deal. I'm sure his agent is talking to teams and they have a good idea on who is interested but I doubt few, if any, offers have been made since opening day.

If I were going to bet money on a single team signing Kimbrel, it would be the Braves.

    The agent is the issue.

With 9 blown saves out of 22 attempts and 9 of 24 losses from BP throwers, how is it possible to think that the Braves don't need a viable closer? 4 less blown saves puts the Braves up 1.5 games on Phiiiies.

for reasons elucidated in this thread I'm glad the Braves said nay
